Clinical Services Representative I

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Services Representative I within the Department of Orthodontics at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). Under general supervision, the Clinical Services Representative I carries out a variety of front desk services related to cash collection. The incumbent serves as a receptionist, maintains appointment books, requests chart, posts payments, enters and updates patient demographic and insurance information and collects copayments.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Registers patients presenting for treatment at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Enters all biographic and insurance information into appropriate computer system. Checks patient identification as required by RSDM policies. Audits patient data, such as address, is current. Obtains a copy of the patients' Medicaid/MedicaidHMO card each month, verifies and updates information as needed. Ensures that the designated insurance copayment is collected before patient is seen by student. Responsible for the collection and posting of patients' payments. Ensures that the patients' payments are recorded properly. Prepares computer receipts for patients. Responds with good customer service to patient inquiries or transfers, as appropriate, to a financial coordinator. Prepares and balances receipts daily for the bank deposit. Endorses all checks with Rutgers University stamp and ensures that deposit is placed in a secure lock bag. Proves cash collections daily according to the procedures established by the Head Cashier. Directs patients to the correct area of the dental school (Special Needs, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Med, etc.). Informs students of their patients' arrival. Takes messages for students and advises them of patient appointments. Requests charts for patients of record who will be seen the next day.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience - Three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required, of which one year must have been in a business setting involving cash collections.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be computer literate, including proficiency in Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications - Preference will be given to those with at least three (3) years of prior dental front desk experience. Associate's degree preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment - PHYSICALDEMANDS: There are no significant physical demands. Sitting for long periods of time may be a requirement. WORKENVIRONMENT: Clinic and office operation. Moderate noise.
