Group Leader - Roxbury

Description Under the supervision of the Site Director/Program Administrator, the Group Educator plans and implements classroom curriculum, provides homework assistance, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. The Group Educator serves as a liaison between the school day teacher and parent to support the academic and social‑emotional success of the students in their classroom. Age‑appropriate activities promote growth in cognitive skills, self‑awareness, peer relationships, and character development. The educator conducts themselves in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner and is a role model for colleagues, participants, and families. They also focus on programming that promotes healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development, positioning the YMCA of Greater Boston as the child‑care program of choice for families and school districts. Requirements Keep safety of children as the first priority; emphasize personal safety and emotional well‑being for children, parents, and early education staff. Ensure 100% compliance with COVID‑19 policies – children wear masks at all times, practice constant handwashing, and maintain social distancing. Use positive and constructive methods of child guidance while ensuring all staff do the same. Adhere to the rules, regulations, and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Boston, the branch location, and the Department of Early Education and Care, as applicable. Supervise children and manage smooth transitions to promote safety and appropriate behavior. Work with the Site Director in designing the program space and maintain facility and supplies at all times. Assist the Site Director with relevant assessments throughout the year through progress reports, parent surveys, and program self‑assessment. Provide children with a well‑balanced curriculum of specific, planned learning experiences that support social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development. Ensure adherence to EEC licensing standards and perpetuate an inclusive culture. Communicate information to parents. Maintain a program environment that is safe, healthy, and engaging. Develop a sound program that provides positive channels for children to grow, learn, and develop to their full potential. Align program with community needs and YMCA mission. Practice and follow all COVID‑19 policies. Complete daily screening prior to entering work each day. Wear a mask at all times. Abide by social distancing recommendations. Complete all PPE and safety trainings prior to first day of work.
