Main Duties & Responsibilities Primary Job Role Leads all occupational health programs (e.g., workers' compensation, exposure control, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, biomedical waste, drug/alcohol-free workplace, first aid, pandemic planning) and oversees injury/illness case management with third-party partners to reduce incident frequency, severity, and cost. Develops and applies occupational health and safety policies, standards, and regulatory requirements, collaborating with the Safety Department to create or improve procedures that eliminate or control workplace hazards. Evaluates workplace risks and ensures compliance by conducting hazard analyses, job/process reviews, and safety inspections, while also training employees, supervisors, and leaders on occupational health and safety practices. Conduct site visits and workplace inspections—including behavioral and physical audits—to identify hazards, document findings, and drive corrective actions, using tools like near‑miss reporting and trend analysis. Support regulatory and compliance requirements by maintaining accurate records, administering safety management system tools, and coordinating training refreshers, inspections, industrial hygiene sampling, and medical surveillance activities. Manage safety‑related documentation and communication by coordinating claims and return‑to‑work processes with HR, keeping SDS and permits updated, and monitoring regulatory changes to inform leadership. Qualifications Education and Experience Formal Education: Associate Degree or certification equivalent in a related field of study. Experience: 7 or more years Required / Credentials Associate Degree or certification equivalent in a related field of study. Able to easily and effectively comprehend written material and communicate orally and in writing with employees and customers. Valid Drivers License Highly Desired Criteria Must be able to obtain and maintain a First‑aid/CPR/AED Certification within 6 months. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Occupational Hearing Conservation certification (CAOHA) within 6 months. Occupational Hearing Conservationist Certification (COHC) Ergonomics Assessment Specialist Certification (CEAS) Occupational Safety Specialist Certification (COSS) Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certification Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification Certified Safety Manager (CSM) Updating of Knowledge Job requirements change requiring re‑training to stay current every 1‑2 years. Responsibility for Change, Innovation, Overall Improvement, and/or Effectiveness Problem Solving: Job requires complex problem solving skills in a dynamic environment. Independent research and analysis are routinely required to develop appropriate solutions. Awareness and intervention is expected to prevent problems from occurring. Creativity: Job requires extensive creativity and a constant need to find new and improved solutions to be effective. Autonomy: Job is not monitored. Involvement in determining overall objectives is encouraged. Use of discretion in how the work is done, setting priorities and decision making is expected.
