Job Summary

The Mentoring Programs Coordinator supports the development and day-to-day operation of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin's (BBBSNEW) small group mentoring programs, as well as our Site-Based mentoring program, where adult volunteers are matched with youth (Littles) at school lunch settings. This position works with community and corporate partners to recruit volunteers and deliver structured, purposeful group programming — with an emphasis on workforce readiness skills such as goal-setting, communication, and professional responsibility — that produces meaningful, measurable outcomes for youth. The Coordinator follows Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Standards of Practice and BBBSNEW program policies.

  • Bachelor's degree in social services, education, family studies, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred. Applicants with equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with youth and/or adult populations, including intake, assessment, or interview experience.
  • Experience facilitating group programs or coordinating volunteers in a community or school setting.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation with automobile insurance meeting Wisconsin state requirements. Ability to travel within the region throughout the workday.

Essential Responsibilities

Volunteer & Community Recruitment

  • Conduct community outreach and networking to recruit volunteers (Bigs) for small group and site-based programs, with a focus on corporate and workplace partnerships.
  • Conduct volunteer enrollments, including orientations, individual interviews, and completion of all required enrollment processes.
  • Assess volunteers and make recommendations for program participation based on individual assessments and the needs of each group or match.

Youth & Family Enrollment

  • Conduct youth enrollments, including parent/guardian and child interviews, child safety education, and completion of enrollment processes.
  • Assess and refer families for alternative or additional services as needed.
  • Review enrollment information and make recommendations for youth participation in group or site-based programs.

Program Coordination & Support

  • Plan and facilitate structured, goal-oriented sessions for small group mentoring cohorts, with a focus on youth development and workforce readiness topics such as communication, teamwork, and professional skills.
  • Support site-based program logistics, coordinating with school partners to ensure sessions are consistent, purposeful, and aligned with positive youth development goals.
  • Develop and promote group match activities that support ongoing volunteer engagement with youth.
  • Maintain partnerships with host sites to ensure program settings are appropriate and consistent.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records for all program participants; use technology to track, analyze, and report data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Match Support & Safety

  • Apply child safety and risk management knowledge consistently across all program activities.
  • Monitor and support match relationships with a focus on child safety, youth development, and volunteer satisfaction.
  • Identify and address potential issues within match or group relationships as early as possible.
  • Provide match support at a frequency consistent with BBBS Standards of Practice.
