This is a specialty-focused, non-entry-level role designed for technicians who thrive in dermatology diagnostics, client education, and long-term case management. You’ll work alongside board-certified dermatologists and specialty clinicians, supporting patients with chronic skin conditions, allergies, and immune‑mediated disease. Opening 2026 | Hiring Timeline: Spring–Summer 2026 Dermatology Technician Responsibilities As a Veterinary Dermatology Technician, you will play a key role in supporting diagnostic workups, treatments, and long‑term management of dermatologic conditions. Dermatology Patient Care Assist with dermatology exams and patient assessments Support care for patients with: Chronic allergies (atopic dermatitis) Otitis (ear infections) Skin infections (bacterial and fungal) Autoimmune and immune‑mediated skin conditions Provide ongoing support for long-term dermatology cases Diagnostics & Testing Perform and assist with: Skin scrapings Cytology (ear and skin) Fungal cultures and diagnostic sampling Prepare and handle samples for accurate diagnostic results Assist with allergy testing and related procedures Treatment & Procedural Support Administer medications and treatments as directed Assist with: Medicated baths and topical therapies Minor dermatologic procedures Support sedation/anesthesia for dermatology procedures when needed Client Communication & Education Educate clients on: Chronic condition management Medication administration At‑home care and treatment compliance Reinforce treatment plans and ensure client understanding Build long‑term relationships with clients managing chronic conditions Clinical Excellence Maintain accurate, detailed medical records Ensure proper documentation of diagnostics and treatment plans Maintain dermatology equipment and exam rooms Support an organized and efficient workflow Who We're Looking For Required Experience 2+ years of experience in: General practice, specialty, or high‑volume veterinary setting Strong background in: Patient care and clinical nursing skills Experience with: Sample collection and lab handling Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, client‑focused environment Preferred Qualifications RVT / LVT / CVT credentials (highly valued, not required) Prior experience in: Dermatology or allergy‑heavy caseloads Strong cytology skills and diagnostic familiarity Experience with client education and long‑term case management Who Thrives in This Role You are: Detail‑oriented and process‑driven Patient and empathetic with clients managing chronic conditions Passionate about dermatology and improving patient comfort A strong communicator who enjoys client education Motivated to grow in a specialty referral environment What We Offer Continuing Education That Matches Your Ambition Dogwood invests heavily in technician development: $3,000 annual CE allowance 2 paid CE PTO days annually Support for advanced certifications (VTS, ECC, anesthesia, specialty focus) Opportunities to refine skills alongside boarded specialists Compensation & Full‑Time Benefits Competitive pay based on dermatology, GP, or specialty experience Headstart student loan repayment assistance for Licensed Veterinary Technicians who have completed an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology and passed the VTNE in the last 3 years.
