Description Dogwood Veterinary Specialty & Emergency is building a surgery‑focused technician team capable of supporting complex, referral‑level procedures with precision, confidence, and clinical autonomy. This is not a generalist role; it is for technicians who want to master anesthesia, own their cases, and work alongside advanced surgical teams. Who this role is built for Already functioning at a high level in anesthesia and surgical nursing. Has experience with ventilators, advanced monitoring, and high‑risk cases. Wants to move beyond routine procedures into complex, referral‑level surgery. Actively pursuing—or seriously considering—a VTS in Surgery or Anesthesia. Takes pride in technical precision, clinical decision‑making, and patient advocacy. It is not for technicians who simply want to "help" or perform routine tasks. Your role: Advanced Surgery Support Advanced surgical & anesthesia management Lead anesthesia induction, intubation, and advanced monitoring (ECG, IBP/NIBP, capnography, pulse oximetry, temperature). Independently manage ventilated patients and complex anesthetic protocols. Make real‑time adjustments based on patient response and surgical demands. Provide high‑level intraoperative support across soft tissue and advanced procedures. Drive safe, efficient surgical flow with a strong focus on patient outcomes. Clinical judgment & case ownership Anticipate complications before they happen and respond decisively. Oversee post‑operative recovery and pain management with attention to detail. Maintain gold‑standard anesthesia records and surgical documentation. Partner closely with surgeons to ensure seamless case execution. Technical excellence Mastery of anesthesia machines, ventilators, and monitoring equipment. Surgical suite setup, instrumentation flow, and sterile technique at a high level. Consistent execution of best practices in surgical nursing and patient safety. What we’re looking for Required experience 2+ years of experience in a surgical, specialty, or high‑volume veterinary setting. Strong background in anesthesia monitoring and surgical nursing. Experience with advanced monitoring equipment and ventilators. High level of confidence working in a fast‑paced surgical environment. Preferred qualifications Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credentials. Experience in orthopedic or specialty surgery. Advanced training in anesthesia or surgical nursing.
