Job Opportunity – Progressive Care Unit / Stepdown RN – Wisconsin

Start Date: October 12, 2026

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Evening/Night shifts, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM. Monday through Friday with every other weekend or as needed to meet scheduling requirements, and some holidays. Alternative schedule available: 4x12s, Thursday-Sunday option.

• Work in a fast-paced, academically affiliated Level One Trauma Center environment providing care to acutely ill surgical and trauma adult patients
• 26-bed progressive care unit with 14 IMC beds (1:2 ratio) and 12 General Care beds (1:3 ratio)
• Epic charting system utilized facility-wide
• Collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment with comprehensive support services including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and more
• Magnet-designated facility recognized as Wisconsin's top-ranked hospital and a nationally leading teaching institution
• 36 hours of orientation provided

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and telemetry experience required
• At least 2 years of acute care inpatient RN experience within the last 3 years in specialty area
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Current RN license (Wisconsin or Compact state license accepted)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
• Epic charting system experience required
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Must successfully pass telemetry competency exam prior to start date with strict passing criteria: 100% identification of lethal rhythms, no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions, and minimum 80% overall passing score
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Must reside at least 50 miles from facility location

Key Skills and Competencies:

• Cardiac telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Central line, PICC line, and arterial line management
• Blood product administration and heparin protocols
• Care of ventilated patients, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
• BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula management
• Pre/post surgical care including orthopedic trauma, neurosurgery, and general surgical patients
• Wound care, chest tube management, and surgical drain care
