CAD/CAM Programming | Mastercam | Precision Machining | Metal Stamping & Die Maintenance

Position Overview

Brey-Krause Mfg. is seeking an experienced, hands-on CNC Programmer / Machinist to support our precision machining, metal stamping, tooling, and manufacturing operations.

This position combines CAD/CAM programming, CNC machining, tooling development, and maintenance of stamping dies used in stainless steel production. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, develop machining programs, set up and operate CNC equipment, and support the reliability and performance of our stamping tooling.

Our ideal candidate has a background in tool-and-die making, particularly stainless steel stamping and die maintenance. We are also open to experienced CNC programmers and machinists who have strong tooling, fixture-building, and metalworking skills and can contribute to these responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

CAD/CAM Programming and CNC Machining

• Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam.
• Develop machining strategies from CAD models, engineering drawings, and existing components.
• Create and modify CAD models, drawings, fixtures, and tooling as needed.
• Set up, program, and operate CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, toolpaths, feeds, speeds, and workholding methods.
• Machine precision components, tooling, fixtures, prototypes, and replacement parts.
• Inspect completed parts and troubleshoot machining or dimensional issues.

Stainless Steel Stamping and Die Maintenance

• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of metal stamping dies used in stainless steel production.
• Inspect dies for wear, damage, alignment issues, and other conditions that affect part quality or production performance.
• Diagnose stamping defects and identify corrective actions involving die condition, tooling geometry, clearances, and setup.
• Assist with die modifications, component replacement, fitting, and refurbishment.
• Manufacture or modify die components, punches, inserts, and related tooling as required.
• Support stamping press setups and troubleshoot tooling-related production problems.
• Help establish preventive maintenance practices to improve die life, part consistency, and production uptime.
• Work with production personnel to identify recurring stamping issues and implement lasting solutions.

Tooling and Manufacturing Development

• Design, manufacture, modify, and repair jigs, fixtures, and specialized tooling.
• Support new product development and improvements to existing manufacturing processes.
• Apply practical knowledge of tolerances, fits, clearances, materials, and tooling functionality.
• Support reverse engineering and the manufacture of replacement components.
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, repeatability, and manufacturing capability.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with Mastercam or comparable CAM software and CNC programming.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC machining equipment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, workholding, and precision inspection.
• Ability to independently develop machining processes and troubleshoot problems.
• Practical CAD skills sufficient to create or modify models and drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in stainless steel metal stamping and stamping die maintenance.
• Tool-and-die making, die repair, die fitting, or precision tooling experience.
• Experience with both vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers.
• Experience manufacturing or modifying punches, dies, inserts, and other tooling components.
• CNC lathe and manual machining experience.
• Familiarity with GD&T, close-tolerance machining, and precision measurement.
• Technical-school training, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a self-sufficient manufacturing professional who combines CNC programming and machining expertise with practical knowledge of metal stamping and production tooling. They can take a component from CAD model to finished part, troubleshoot machining and tooling problems, and help maintain and improve the dies used in our stainless steel stamping operations.

A traditional tool-and-die background is highly desirable, particularly for stainless steel stamping and die maintenance. Candidates with strong CNC and tooling experience who can demonstrate the ability to develop these additional skills will also be considered.
