Senior Maintenance Mechanic

The Senior Maintenance Technician is an advanced‑level technician responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production equipment in a battery manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment across casting, pasting, cell, and final assembly operations, as well as supporting equipment. Perform advanced troubleshooting on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and uptime. Identify root causes of recurring failures and implement corrective actions. Respond to equipment downtime with urgency to restore production. Support line changeovers, startups, and equipment adjustments. Work closely with operations to prioritize maintenance activities and minimize disruption. Provide hands‑on assistance to less experienced mechanics and technicians. Coordinate daily maintenance activities and communicate priorities. Drive consistent troubleshooting and repair practices across the maintenance team. Fabricate or modify guards, brackets, fixtures, and machine components to improve safety and reliability. Support equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives. Assist with installation and commissioning of new or modified equipment. Monitor and support plant utility systems, including dust collection, wastewater treatment, and compressed air. Identify and address issues that may impact safety, compliance, or production uptime. Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements. Work safely in a battery manufacturing environment with lead exposure controls. Identify and report unsafe conditions and participate in corrective actions. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance (preferred but not required). 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Technical Skills Electrical & Controls Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems. Ability to troubleshoot 120V–480V circuits, motors, starters, contactors, overloads, disconnects, sensors, switches, relays, and control components. Experience with VFDs, soft starts, and motor control systems. Use of multimeters and clamp meters; ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and panel layouts. Familiarity with PLC‑controlled equipment; ability to troubleshoot I/O issues, differentiate electrical from control problems, and work with controls or engineering. Mechanical Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and repair of complex production equipment. Understanding of rotating equipment, shafts, bearings, couplings, and alignment. Experience diagnosing and repairing conveyors, gearboxes, chains, belts, drive systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Ability to perform precision mechanical work: alignment, fitting, replacement. Knowledge of wear patterns, failure modes, and root cause identification. Fabrication & Machining Proficient in welding (MIG preferred; TIG/Stick a plus). Cutting, grinding, fitting of metal components. Operating shop equipment: lathe, drill press, grinders, machining tools. Fabrication of guards, brackets, fixtures, and equipment modification for safety and reliability. Thermal & Process Equipment Experience with gas‑fired and temperature‑controlled equipment: industrial ovens, dryers, curing systems, gas burners, regulators, valve trains. Flame safety device knowledge and basic combustion systems. Ability to troubleshoot heating, airflow, and temperature control issues. Plant Utilities & Support Systems Understanding of dust collection systems, wastewater treatment and filtration systems, compressed air systems and distribution. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve environmental system issues that impact uptime. Language, Mathematical, Reasoning, and Computer Skills Read simple instructions, write simple correspondence. Present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings. Use measurement devices, tables, formulas for basic problems. Use common sense to carry out written or diagram instructions.
