UCSF School of Medicine and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals Department of Pediatrics Adjunct, Clinical X, and Health Sciences (HS) Clinical Faculty Series The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals is recruiting clinical hospitalists across multiple pediatric practice settings. Appointments may be made at the Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Adjunct, Clinical X, or Health Sciences (HS) Clinical faculty series, with academic rank and series commensurate with qualifications and experience. Selected candidates will join one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric health systems and established training programs. Positions may have clinical responsibilities at the San Francisco and Oakland campuses, as well as affiliated community sites, depending on the role, and will actively contribute to the Department’s mission of excellence in research, education, and patient care. Candidates selected through this recruitment will be appointed within the Department of Pediatrics division that best aligns with their primary clinical responsibilities, training, and expertise. The Department offers a collaborative clinical environment with opportunities for faculty to develop practice portfolios that span multiple divisions or practice settings. Faculty work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and play an integral role in educating and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners. In addition to their clinical responsibilities, faculty are encouraged to develop academic interests in medical education, quality improvement, patient safety, clinical investigation, advocacy, leadership, and other areas of scholarship, supported by a strong culture of mentorship and collaboration. Faculty Role Clinical hospitalist faculty within the Department of Pediatrics provide high-quality, evidence-based care for infants, children, and adolescents across a variety of inpatient settings. Faculty work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and play an integral role in educating and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners. In addition to their clinical responsibilities, faculty are encouraged to develop academic interests in medical education, quality improvement, patient safety, clinical investigation, advocacy, leadership, and other areas of scholarship, supported by a strong culture of mentorship and collaboration. Clinical Opportunities Division of Critical Care Medicine Hospitalists in the Division of Critical Care Medicine provide direct patient care in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Transitional Care Unit (TCUP). Faculty work collaboratively with multidisciplinary critical care teams to care for critically ill infants and children, perform advanced bedside procedures, and contribute to the management of patients requiring life-sustaining therapies, including mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal life support, and continuous renal replacement therapy, under appropriate supervision. Divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant Hospitalists within the Divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant provide front-line inpatient care for children with complex hematologic, oncologic, and transplant-related conditions. Clinical responsibilities may include management of acute patient concerns, admissions, procedures, and longitudinal inpatient care in collaboration with interdisciplinary care teams. Division of Hospital Medicine The Division of Hospital Medicine offers opportunities to provide inpatient care across UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital’s affiliated Bay Area community hospitals. Faculty may provide care for general pediatric inpatients, newborns, and medically complex children across academic and community practice settings. Depending on the position, responsibilities may include teaching and non-teaching services, day or night coverage, emergency department consultation, high-risk delivery attendance, and newborn care. Division of Neonatology The Division of Neonatology offers opportunities to provide care in Level IV Intensive Care Nurseries within a nationally recognized academic medical center, as well as Level II and Level III nurseries at affiliated Bay Area community hospitals. Faculty may independently manage lower-acuity infants and participate in the care of critically ill newborns, neonatal resuscitations, and neonatal transport activities, based on their interests, qualifications, and the operational needs of the Division. Additional clinical hospitalist opportunities within the Department of Pediatrics may become available throughout the recruitment period based on departmental priorities and candidate expertise. Required Qualifications MD, DO, or equivalent degree. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of California. Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical care. Commitment to working collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Preferred Qualifications Strong interest in academic pediatrics and clinical education. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Experience supervising or teaching medical students, residents, or fellows. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), as appropriate for the intended clinical assignment. Interest in quality improvement, patient safety, clinical investigation, or other scholarly activities. Board certification or board eligibility in the applicable pediatric subspecialty. For positions that are 51% effort or more: The total compensation for this position ranges from $183,000-$300,000. Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members. Faculty who are members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan may also be eligible for additional incentive pay.
