About the Role
The Company is seeking an AVP - Chief Engineer to provide strategic leadership and oversight of major capital projects and maintenance of way operations across its various transportation systems. This executive-level role is responsible for ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and engineering excellence in the design, construction, and maintenance activities of the company's infrastructure. The successful candidate will manage a team of internal staff, consultants, and contractors, and will be the primary engineering liaison with a range of stakeholders, including federal, state, and local agencies. Essential duties include developing and implementing engineering standards, overseeing complex contracts, and leading emergency response coordination. The role also involves budget management, technical analysis, and supervision of engineering staff. Applicants for the AVP - Chief Engineer position at the company should have a Bachelor of Science degree in structural, civil engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of 6 years' experience in engineering, construction, and maintenance of way activities. Experience in major project management across various transportation modes and with multiple project delivery methods is preferred. The role requires a strong understanding of federal regulations, particularly those of the Federal Railroad Administration and the Federal Transit Administration. The ideal candidate will be a registered Professional Engineer, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and be an effective communicator with the ability to lead teams and foster collaboration. The position demands a quick learner who can adapt to new technical developments and is adept at resource management, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
