Location: On-site in Laredo preferred. Hybrid is possible for the right person based in Nuevo Laredo or Monterrey, with regular days in Laredo.

Pay: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience. Plus profit sharing and a real path to equity.

About us

Universal Flow Controls has imported and exported industrial steel products for over 30 years: pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, and plate. We source hard-to-find materials and alloys for Mexican OEMs, EPCs, service centers, and manufacturers, both from stock and through custom manufacturing with top producers worldwide.

Our distribution center is in Laredo, three miles from the international bridge. We're now building AI-powered tools to make cross-border industrial procurement faster and easier for our customers.

The role in one sentence

You'll understand every order we process and the numbers behind it, keep our books clean, keep our cash forecast accurate, and help us get paid faster.

What you'll do

Bookkeeping and month-end close

• Keep our books accurate and up to date in our ERP.
• Make sure every vendor bill is entered. At any moment, you know what's missing.
• Pay vendors on time, every time.
• Close the month within the first week of the following month.

Order profitability

• Join our order kickoff meeting, where expected profit for each order is set.
• When an order is paid, close it out and calculate what we actually made after material cost, freight and customs, and financing costs.
• Find where we're losing margin and work with sales to fix it, including minimum markup rules.

Cash flow and collections

• Own our cash flow forecast and keep it as accurate as possible. This is the most important habit in the role.
• Lead collections. Work with operations and sales to get paid sooner through smart strategies across the whole order, not just reminder emails.
• Track and improve our cash conversion cycle (how many days it takes for cash we spend on material to come back to us as customer payments).

Reporting

• Build our financial reporting workflows with management.
• Lead the preparation and interpretation of financial statements, including profit & loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses, ensuring accuracy.
• Present weekly and monthly numbers to leadership as a clear story they can act on, not a stack of raw reports.
• Help build budgets and track sales goals.
• Oversee corporate accounting functions such as general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable management, cost accounting, and accrual accounting processes.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive financial projection models to support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and investment decision-making.
• Grow the credit our suppliers extend to us.
• Customer and supplier onboarding, and building our compliance process.
• Company purchasing (office and warehouse supplies) and managing service vendors like cleaning, pest control, and forklift maintenance.

• Our average days to get paid goes down.
• Our cash flow forecast matches reality.

Your tools

You'll have the best AI models and custom AI agents built for your work. Much of the heavy lifting in order analysis is already automated. What we need from you is discipline: keeping the data right, the forecast current, and following up until the money is in. You don't need to be an AI expert. You need to be curious and willing to learn it with us.

Requirements

• Ideally a Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
• Hands-on experience with bookkeeping, month-end close, and financial statements.
• Comfortable with cash flow forecasting and accounts receivable.

Nice to have

• English and Spanish, written and spoken.
• CPA or CMA.
• Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or logistics.
• A valid US visa if based in Mexico.
