Responsibilities An Ingalls Pipe Welder is responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper‑Nickel pipe using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding. The shipyard environment is an around‑the‑clock manufacturing setting. Work may involve different heights, confined spaces, varying weather conditions, and multiple shifts 24 hours a day. Welder may be required to work day or night depending on ship construction schedules. Safety procedures meet or exceed industry standards. Welding processes include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as stick welding, and Flux‑Core Arc Welding (FCAW), also known as wire welding. Qualifications Pipe Welder HA must have graduated from a pipe welder program at a vo‑tech school or other training institution. Program must include training in TIG root and stick fill and cap on steel piping in the 6GR position.
