Job Summary

Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, the job of Nutrition Services Assistant-Floater is for the purposes of performing routine tasks in the assembly, serving, and sale of food in a high school or middle school kitchen or food service area.


The Nutritional Services Assistant-Floater performs routine duties such as setup, serving, cleaning and basic food assembly and operating a point of sale terminal, and is sent to different sites to fill in during an absence or when that site has a surge in daily production or a special project.

The competitive basis for this recruitment is established as Open/Promotional-Dual Certification. Completed applications are reviewed and candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and submit a valid food handler card are placed on an eligibility list. The eligibility list is used to fill vacancies within the six-month eligibility period.

Employment with SDUHSD is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check, fingerprinting, physical exam including tuberculosis, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance.


Probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer. Management employees serve a probationary period of one year.
