Assistant Teacher 2 (JobID: 12852) Position Type: Classified / Early Childhood - PreK Date Posted: 5/18/2026 Location: To be determined Date Available: 2026-27 School Year Closing Date: 05/25/2026 Days of the Week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Shift Times: 7:45-2:45; Monday-Thursday, occasional Friday shifts throughout the year. Position Summary The E-Start Assistant Teacher assists the teacher in providing children with a learning environment and varied experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development. The role supports parents as the principal influence on a child's education, promotes physical well‑being, and enhances access to ongoing health services. The primary focus is assisting the teacher with learning activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Daily Program: Participate in planning with teachers and staff, prepare materials and environment, and maintain a safe, orderly, developmentally appropriate setting. Interactions with Children and Families: Interact positively with children to support learning and emotional needs; communicate regularly and respectfully with families. Environment: Maintain a safe, healthy environment reflecting cultures and languages of families; supervise children in classrooms, outdoor spaces, and field trips. Individualizing: Conduct ongoing assessments, participate in developing and implementing individual learning plans (ILP), and provide curriculum meeting each child's needs, including those with disabilities. Health and Development Screening: Assist in administering screenings and performing health duties. Meals: Participate in meal preparation, family‑style implementation, cleanup, and USDA paperwork; serve food, identify dietary accommodations, and assist with emergency supplies. Record Keeping: Maintain complete written records for each child/family in a confidential manner. Interdisciplinary Planning: Participate in interdisciplinary planning for children and families and other cross‑component coordination. Parent Involvement: Encourage and support family involvement, including parent gatherings and meetings; may visit parents at home. Duties in Absence of Teacher: Assume teacher responsibilities when requested. Staff Training: Attend pre‑service and other staff in‑service trainings. Required Qualifications Washington State ECE Initial Certificate, Short Certificate of Specialization, or Certificate. Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (any focus) FROM the Council for Professional Recognition OR 12 job‑related credits. Professional Development Plan completing above qualifications (substitution). Abides by OSHA safety rules/standards, wears required safety equipment, and safe shoes with toe and heel coverage. Criminal background clearance. Valid and current Food Handler's permit. Current district‑approved CPR and first aid training within 90 days of employment. Reliable transportation. PUESD health clearance form and negative TB test or chest X‑ray results. Maintains district‑approved Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) certificate. Completes FWPS district‑approved Right Response training at the advanced level and maintains certification through annual recertification. Passes Portable Back Check (PBC) on Merit via DCYF prior to employment start date. Willing to work scheduled hours consistently. Preferred Qualifications One (1) school year (9 months) experience in a preschool classroom. Current or former E-Start parents receive preference for vacancies for which they are equally qualified. Knowledge and Abilities Basic knowledge of technology and willingness to increase proficiency. Organize and perform responsibilities efficiently independently. Read, speak, and follow written or verbal communications. Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines. Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers. Collaborate with District staff and promote teamwork. Practice ethical and professional conduct, including confidentiality. Relate effectively with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural community. Provide training and support to volunteers. Follow teacher guidance. Use computer for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and networking. Provide supervision on field trips. Perform duties with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical Demands The employee will frequently stand, walk, stoop, squat, kneel, use hands for fine manipulation, lift and carry equipment and children up to 40 lbs.; occasional lifting of 300 lbs. requires two‑person lift or mechanical aid. Work Environment Indoor controlled spaces with artificial and natural lighting; occasional recess outside; moderate to loud noise; exposure to infectious diseases; require universal precautions; frequent interruptions. Work Schedule Typically 8 hours per day, Monday‑Friday, preschool hours; may vary and some evenings required. Reporting Relationship Reports to the E-Start Center Coordinator and E-Start Teacher. Compensation and Benefits Teacher Assistant position on the E-Start Salary Schedule; benefits prorated based on FTE – medical, dental, vision, sick, life insurance, and retirement.
