Job Title Paraeducator Level II Combo – Special Education Itinerant (4 hrs & 2 hrs LHA – 6 hrs total), Potomac Elementary School, FY27. Application closes 7/7/26. Wage The wage range is $25.40 to $38.15 per hour, based on years of service. Job Summary At the direction of the principal, this paraeducator performs a variety of tasks to promote student learning and well-being for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Duties may include off‑school learning activities, academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support. The paraeducator facilitates the mastery of grade‑level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards and manages behaviors that impact student access to the curriculum. Students supported at this level may participate in general education classes and/or specialized instructional settings throughout the school day and may be pulled out for individualized or small‑group reinforcement of instruction. This position also performs instructional and classroom management supports, along with related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all classrooms or learning environments. All new paraeducators are hired at grade 15 and have the opportunity to promote to grade 16 after successfully completing the six‑month probationary period and required training hours. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and school policies. Ability to assist with program implementation and monitor student behavior. Ability to interact effectively with children, young adults, and staff. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Google Workspace, MS Office, and web‑based instructional tools. Familiarity with the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Education, Training, and Experience Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework should include a minimum of nine credit‑hours related to education (e.g., behavior management, instructional strategies). One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred. If no related coursework, two to four years of experience working with children and adolescents in a structured setting (e.g., daycare, pre‑school) required. Alternatively, at least 48 college credits and two years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, pre‑school, adult day program, after‑school program, extended day, or school/non‑school based department. Two years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, pre‑school, adult day program, after‑school program, extended day, or school/non‑school based department is acceptable if the candidate completes the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher. Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered. Physical Demands Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects or equipment up to 50 pounds may be required. Special Requirements Outside duty may be required.
