Tax Partner (New York)

About the Role

A boutique CPA firm in Manhattan is seeking an experienced Tax Partner to join its leadership team and contribute to the continued growth of the firm's tax practice. This opportunity is ideal for an established tax practitioner, current partner, or sole proprietor looking to transition into a collaborative firm environment while continuing to manage existing client relationships and expanding their practice.

A successful candidate will have the opportunity to bring an existing book of business to the firm while also assuming responsibility for established firm clients and new engagements. This role combines technical tax expertise, client relationship management, tax planning, practice development, and leadership. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, client-focused, and interested in building long-term relationships while contributing to the firm's overall success.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow an existing book of business while assuming responsibility for clients and engagements assigned by the firm.
• Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, LLCs, trusts, and estates.
• Oversee tax engagements from planning and information gathering through preparation, review, filing, and ongoing client advisory services.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business owners, executives, high-net-worth individuals, and other clients on tax planning, compliance, and business matters.
• Provide technical guidance on complex tax issues, including entity structuring, pass-through taxation, shareholder and partner basis, multi-state taxation, tax credits, and transaction planning.
• Identify tax-saving opportunities and develop strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, New York State, and local tax laws.
• Lead client relationships, manage engagement expectations, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, and responsive service.
• Oversee tax return review, quality control, and technical research while providing guidance and mentorship to staff and other tax professionals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required.
• CPA or EA license required
• Significant public accounting tax experience, with a track record of managing complex engagements and client relationships.
• Current or prior experience as a Tax Partner, Tax Director, sole practitioner, or senior tax professional with substantial client ownership responsibilities preferred.
• An established book of business or demonstrated ability to generate new business.
