Business Manager — Divine Mercy Pastorate

Christ the King Parish | Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Divine Mercy Pastorate is seeking a lifelong Catholic missionary disciple to serve as Business Manager. This is an opportunity to put your gifts for finance and leadership directly in service of the Church — stewarding the resources entrusted to the Pastorate so that its ministries can thrive.

Position Summary

The Business Manager oversees all fiscal matters for Divine Mercy Pastorate, ensuring compliance with Church, state, and federal regulations through accurate bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, grant fund allocation, reconciliations, and related accounting functions.

As an active member of the Pastorate's leadership team, which meets weekly, the Business Manager advises the Pastor on investments and budgeting and works to be the best possible steward of the funds entrusted to the Pastorate. The Business Manager also serves as the Pastorate's human resources practitioner, supervising the administrative and finance team, resourcing team leaders, and ensuring compliance with Diocesan policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable — Supervise day-to-day activities; ensure best practices for internal controls; manage restricted donations and pass-through contributions; ensure all payables have sufficient documentation and follow Diocesan guidelines; process shared expense reports where applicable; maintain accounting files per the Diocesan Record Retention Policy.

Financial Reporting — Review bank accounts monthly; prepare monthly financial reports for the Pastor and lead Finance Council meetings; develop an annual budget for approval prior to fiscal year end; review and approve Diocesan annual report information; review quarterly 941s and year-end W-2s/W-3s in a timely manner.

Personnel — Assist the Pastor with hiring, onboarding, staff retention, annual evaluations, and personnel decisions; review and maintain the Employee Handbook; review payroll for accuracy and compliance; train new employees while articulating the vision of the Diocese and Pastorate; maintain personnel files per the Diocesan Record Retention Policy.

Administration — Articulate the vision of the Diocese and Divine Mercy Pastorate; prepare the annual Safe Environment Audit; lead Finance Council and committee meetings as assigned; commit to ongoing training and continuing education.

Essential Qualifications

Primary — Willing and able to make known the Church's teachings and the Bishop's Diocesan vision; maintains respectful, open dialogue with the Pastor; serves as a personal witness to the Catholic faith in professional and personal life; strong, practical leadership skills; strong computer skills and ability to learn new platforms; ability to analyze and improve procedures; ability to coordinate hourly staff schedules; ability to build annual budgets collaboratively with team leaders.

Education and Experience — Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required (master's preferred); 3–5+ years in business administration including accounting/finance; demonstrated leadership and managerial experience; experience in staff management, goal setting, and budget optimization.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities — A Catholic leader committed to the Church's teachings and personal growth; advanced knowledge of budgeting, accounting, investment, and financial reporting; able to work independently and collaboratively; excellent communication and confidentiality; strong leadership and interpersonal skills; comfortable speaking publicly and representing the Pastorate.

Job Conditions and Physical Demands

Ability to manage high-stress, multitasking demands; push/pull/lift/carry up to 50 lbs.; sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and perform repetitive hand motions; work in an office setting and at various venues as events require; available for periodic travel to Pastorate and Diocesan meetings; typical 40-hour week with occasional nights, weekends, or high-volume projects.
