Clinical Support Tech I - Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit

Nursing Assistant I + clerical (Clinical Support Tech I) is needed for the new Intermediate Neurosciences and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Position Details This is a 36‑hour per week position, working rotating shifts (days and nights: 7 am‑7:30 pm, 7 pm‑7:30 am), with weekend and holiday rotation. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package, including paid time off hours accrued based on the number of hours worked. Unit Overview The Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit (INEU) consists of professionals who approach their work with positivity, compassion, and a strong sense of teamwork. The unit has 18 beds (4 for epilepsy monitoring) and cares for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, epilepsy, spine injury, neuromuscular illness, neurodegenerative illness, neurotrauma, and central nervous system infections. ENT patients are predominantly presented with head and neck malignancies requiring a variety of surgical interventions. The new unit is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2026. Summary Responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and performing a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance tasks in the patient care unit desk area. Responsibilities Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procurement of equipment and supplies. Critically reviews patient care documentation, noting any significant changes and reporting immediately to a registered nurse or physician. Handles a variety of clerical tasks including organizing workload, greeting visitors, researching information, reviewing and revising orders, answering the telephone/patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, maintaining medical records, performing quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies. Provides administrative and clerical support including PI audits and data entry. Provides clinical support: cleaning work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, re‑stocking supplies, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, and assisting with orientation of new employees and students. Provides direct personal care: bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting ambulation, measuring vital signs, height and weight. May collect specimens, perform skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range‑of‑motion exercises, and/or postural drainage. Reinforces routine teaching given by the nurse or physician, documents patient understanding, and distributes education materials upon request. Education & Qualifications High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Fluent in verbal and written English. Ability to develop computer skills. Prior experience not required.
