Engineering Principal

HDR is currently seeking an Engineering Principal for our rapidly‑growing Colorado building engineering team. This key leadership role is part of our integrated Architecture/Engineering practice in Denver, Colorado. The role involves leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, engaging with architectural and engineering designers, and adding value to the project delivery process. Primary Duties Play a significant role in business development efforts and grow HDR’s market share in specific A/E markets using expertise and professional network. Provide senior‑level project leadership in your engineering discipline and areas of market expertise. Business Development Responsibilities Build and maintain executive‑level client relationships and serve as Client Manager for key/strategic accounts. Develop and execute market sector strategies, identify target clients, and pursue high‑value expansion opportunities. Lead go/no‑go evaluations, pursuit strategy, and proposal development for strategic and must‑win opportunities. Collaborate with HDR Architecture and Engineering teams on project pursuits. Participate in discipline‑level and project‑level scope/fee development for project pursuits. Participate in project interviews as an engineering leader. Assist in attracting, recruiting, and hiring outstanding new team members to strengthen the practice. Represent HDR through active participation in the professional community to build reputation. Perform additional duties as needed for the advancement of HDR’s stature and market penetration. Demonstrate exceptional leadership and maintain the standard of practice for world‑class project execution. Take roles as Project Manager, Senior Engineer, and/or Engineer‑of‑Record on selected projects. Serve as a senior technical advisor to multiple projects involving complex technical challenges. Conduct QC and technical reviews and provide guidance on active projects. Mentor and coach team members on nuances of your professional markets. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering. Substantial engineering experience, project history, and professional network in Colorado and beyond in one or more of these market sectors: higher education, hospitality/hotels, healthcare, aerospace, commercial real estate, mission‑critical facilities, aviation. Natural predisposition to, and demonstrable success in, architecture/engineering business development in Colorado. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 15 years related experience. Minimum 7 years of project management experience. Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng). Experience with MS Office and MS Project (Access experience a plus).
