Chief Medical OfficerLocation: Winnebago, NebraskaThe Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides clinical oversight and strategic direction for medical care across the hospital and health system. Reporting to the CEO and working collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer, the CMO provides leadership over medical staff, quality and patient safety, clinical operations, provider performance, credentialing, and population health initiatives. The CMO promotes patient-centered, culturally competent care while supporting the organization's mission, strategic goals, and commitment to improving health outcomes within the community.Responsibilities:Provide clinical oversight and direction for medical services throughout the hospital and health systemOversee the quality, safety, and patient experience of care across clinical settingsProvide leadership and supervision to Medical Staff leadership across acute and ambulatory careEnsure care is delivered in a culturally competent manner consistent with the needs and values of the Native American communities servedServe as a collaborative member of the executive leadership team and participate in strategic planning and organizational goal developmentServe as a clinical spokesperson for WCHS in collaboration with executive leadership and communications teamsLead and oversee the Medical Executive Committee and Medical Staff Office functions as assigned by the CEO and medical staff bylawsOversee credentialing, re-credentialing, peer review, quality management, and medical staff disciplineParticipate in organizational committees including Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Quality Management, Utilization Review, and other committees as assignedEnsure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, accreditation standards, and applicable healthcare regulationsLead medical staff recruitment efforts and support the effective management of external medical staffing contractsIdentify and prioritize opportunities to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of careEstablish and improve medical staff performance standards related to clinical knowledge, communication, professionalism, and system-based practiceOversee Medical Directors responsible for acute, ambulatory, and behavioral health servicesProvide leadership and oversight for medical education, including medical students, residents, residency development, and other health professionsOversee clinical telehealth programs designed to expand access and improve patient careSupport the continued maintenance of Nebraska State Trauma Tier IV designationEnsure medical staff and departments under the CMO's supervision follow organizational policies and proceduresSupport Medical Directors in ensuring providers complete accurate and timely medical documentationCollaborate with Purchased Referred Care and case management teams to review and manage consultant referralsProvide direct clinical services as agreed uponParticipate in morning rounds and huddles and support timely emergency department transfers and hospital admissionsDevelop and maintain external relationships to expand coordinated and integrated specialty care servicesSupport initiatives that improve population health through clinical care, research, and community partnershipsProvide leadership across additional clinical services as the WCHS system evolves, including behavioral health, substance use services, optometry, dentistry, elder care, EMS, and integrated patient carePerform other duties as assignedQualifications:MD or DO degree from an accredited institutionValid, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territoryValid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificationCompletion of an approved medical residency programBoard certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Psychiatry consistent with medical staff bylawsMinimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed physicianMinimum of five (5) years of supervisory and leadership experience in hospital and ambulatory healthcare settingsPublic health leadership experience preferredExperience working with Native American communities preferredDemonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and a "Patient First" approachStrong leadership, communication, strategic planning, and decision-making skillsDemonstrated experience achieving quality, safety, patient experience, and employee engagement outcomesExperience using quality improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma preferredStrong strategic thinking and organizational planning skillsAbility to navigate complex and rapidly changing healthcare environmentsAbility to work independently and effectively as part of an executive leadership teamCertificates, Licenses & Registrations:Must maintain all required medical licenses and certificationsMust maintain valid DEA certificationMust comply with applicable federal background check requirements, including 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31(C) and (D)Must comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 requirements regarding criminal records checksSchedule: Full timeSetting: Hospital and health system leadershipBenefits:Competitive executive compensation based on experienceComprehensive benefits packageSupportive executive leadership environmentOpportunity to lead clinical strategy and healthcare improvement initiativesOpportunity to serve and improve healthcare outcomes within the communityEEO Statement -
