Maintenance Technician (Multi-Craft, 1st Shift)

This 1st shift multi-craft maintenance technician role supports a plastics recycling facility by performing both electrical and mechanical maintenance on production equipment. The position is evenly split between mechanical and electrical work, as well as between preventative and reactive maintenance. You will troubleshoot and repair equipment such as conveyors, augers, extruders, boilers, bearings, and pumps, while safely working with electrical systems up to 480 volts.

Responsibilities

• Perform a balanced mix of preventative and reactive maintenance on production equipment, focusing 50% on mechanical tasks and 50% on electrical tasks.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480 volts using meters, meggers, and other test equipment to diagnose and repair faults.
• Rewire motors, replace and adjust sensors, and repair or replace electrical components such as fuses, relays, contactors, and switches.
• Troubleshoot, dismantle, inspect, assemble, adjust, repair, and test a wide variety of mechanical components and equipment including conveyors, grinders, centrifuges, augers, valves, pumps, compressors, boilers, gearboxes, and related systems.
• Use basic and advanced mechanical theories and concepts to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective solutions.
• Read and interpret P&ID drawings, flow diagrams, parts lists, written instructions, standards, schematics, and instruction manuals to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
• Make mathematical computations for measurements, alignments, and other maintenance-related calculations.
• Operate hand-held test equipment to troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment and instrumentation.
• Develop and implement maintenance-related changes that reduce cost, improve product quality, or enhance safety.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, including conduit benders and specialized tools, to complete electrical and mechanical work.
• Apply knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding as needed to support equipment maintenance and repair.
• Follow and apply all safety, health, and environmental procedures, including processes such as management of change, lockout/tagout, and confined space entry.
• Complete work orders and electronic documentation (EKPs and similar records) accurately and in a timely manner.
• Use computer systems such as SAP, Falcon, Microsoft Office, and network drives to look up inventory, access manuals, review technical data, and complete work orders.
• Collaborate in a team environment, assist coworkers, share knowledge, and participate in problem solving to drive continuous equipment improvement.
• Provide and receive constructive feedback, support day-to-day operations, and contribute positively to the maintenance team culture.
• Work safely in extreme conditions such as heat, cold, noise, fumes, and dust while maintaining a high standard of work quality.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician performing both electrical and mechanical maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480 volts using meters and other electrical test equipment.
• Hands-on experience rewiring motors and changing out sensors on production equipment.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills on equipment such as conveyors, augers, extruders, grinders, centrifuges, valves, pumps, compressors, boilers, and gearboxes.
• Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings, flow diagrams, parts lists, schematics, standards, and instruction manuals.
• Proficiency in using hand-held test equipment for troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing equipment and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of electrical components including fuses, relays, contactors, switches, and related devices.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems used in industrial equipment.
• Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance practices in a production environment.
• Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, including conduit benders and meggers.
• Capability to perform mathematical computations related to measurements and maintenance tasks.
• Comfort working in extreme conditions such as heat, cold, noise, fumes, and dust while adhering to safety standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and participate in collaborative problem solving.
• Basic computer proficiency to use systems such as SAP, Falcon, Microsoft Office, and network drives for work orders, inventory lookup, and technical documentation.
• Commitment to following safety, health, and environmental procedures, including lockout/tagout and confined space entry processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in plastics processing, plastics recycling, or similar manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with boilers and associated systems in an industrial setting.
• Exposure to welding for maintenance and repair tasks.
• Experience developing and implementing maintenance improvements that reduce cost, improve quality, or enhance safety.
• Ability to complete electronic documentation such as EKPs or similar maintenance records in a timely and accurate manner.
• Strong communication skills to provide and receive constructive feedback within a maintenance team.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and apply advanced mechanical theories and concepts to new equipment and systems.

Work Environment

This role is based in a plastics recycling facility that maintains a clean and orderly operation, supported by two scheduled shutdowns per year dedicated to deep cleaning. You work a consistent 1st shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The environment includes typical industrial conditions such as heat, cold, noise, fumes, and dust, and you regularly work around conveyors, extruders, boilers, pumps, and related equipment. You use a wide range of tools and technologies, including hand and power tools, meters, conduit benders, meggers, SAP, Falcon, Microsoft Office, and digital documentation systems. Safety procedures and standards are integral to daily operations, and appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to perform tasks safely and effectively.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $79206.00 - $79206.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
