Program Director

Ophthalmology Program Director Department: Open Sales / Ophthalmology Reports To: VP of Business Development Location: Remote / Field-Based FLSA: Exempt Target Geography: Nation Position Summary: The Ophthalmology Program Director / Subject Matter Expert will lead the strategy, development, and commercialization roadmap for RetinaCare Complete, Acelpa Health’s focused ophthalmology specialty program. This leader will connect ophthalmology expertise with provider needs, payer and IPA alignment, manufacturer engagement, compliant education, operational readiness, and measurable business performance. This is a sales role that will partner with, managed care, intake, prior authorization and benefits verification, pharmacy operations, patient care, marketing, trade and compliance. Key Responsibilities: Own the RetinaCare Complete business development, roadmap, launch priorities, and expansion plan for California, Arizona and Hawaii. Serve as the organization’s ophthalmology subject matter expert and translate market-access, reimbursement, and practice-workflow considerations into practical commercial programs. Lead strategic engagement with ophthalmologists, retina practices, practice administrators, injection teams, ambulatory surgery center stakeholders, key opinion leaders, manufacturers, payers, IPAs, and risk-bearing organizations. Develop the provider value proposition, education framework, sales playbook, approved talk tracks, objection-handling resources, and account-conversion criteria in coordination with compliance and marketing. Support strategic account calls, workflow discovery, pilot design, provider onboarding, and escalations that require ophthalmology or market-access expertise. Partner with managed care teams to define payer and IPA value stories, reporting packages, benefit strategies, and utilization visibility. Advance manufacturer relationships related to access, patient support, data reporting, biosimilar conversion, site-of-care strategy, and other approved collaboration opportunities. Coordinate with operations to establish reliable handoffs for intake, prior authorization, benefits verification, medication access, delivery, reporting, and issue escalation. Guide product and disease-state prioritization across retina and other approved ophthalmology opportunities while maintaining clear program scope. Own program KPIs, quarterly business reviews, pilot evaluation, margin visibility, risk tracking, and recommendations for scale. Represent RetinaCare Complete at relevant provider meetings and industry events, participate in manufacturer discussions. Monitor market dynamics, competitive activity, payer changes, supply considerations, and provider feedback, and recommend adjustments to the program. Skills and Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, pharmacy, life sciences, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Demonstrated experience in ophthalmology, retina, specialty pharmacy, pharmaceutical market access, provider commercialization, managed care, or a closely related healthcare field. Ability to communicate credibly with clinical, operational, payer, and manufacturers. Experience developing and executing strategic plans, launch roadmaps, cross-functional workstreams, and measurable performance objectives. Strong understanding of reimbursement workflows, prior authorization, benefits investigation, specialty medication access, and provider practice operations. Demonstrated ability to convert market insight into education, sales enablement, pilot design, and operational requirements. Proficiency with CRM, presentation, spreadsheet, and business reporting tools. Preferred Requirements: Advanced degree or clinical credential relevant to pharmacy, healthcare, business, or life sciences. Direct experience with retina practices, ophthalmic specialty medications, manufacturer access programs, specialty distribution, or buy-and-bill and pharmacy-benefit workflows. Experience with IPA, delegated-risk, or value-based care relationships. Experience launching a new healthcare service line or specialty program across multiple markets. Established relationships within ophthalmology, retina, specialty pharmacy, payer, or manufacturer communities. Physical Requirements: Field and remote work with regular collaboration across business development, managed care, pharmacy operations, and external stakeholders. Travel within California, Arizona and Hawaii, and occasional travel to industry meetings or trade shows, is expected based on business need.
