Accounting Manager

*This is for a company owned by Murphy Door's CEO - Barker Real Estate Group Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, highly organized Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate companies and related entities. This is a hands-on accounting position responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, completing the monthly close, managing accounts payable and receivable, monitoring cash activity, maintaining balance sheet accounts, and preparing financial reporting and supporting schedules. The Accounting Manager will work closely with and report directly to the CFO and CEO. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing multiple companies simultaneously, working independently, meeting deadlines, and taking ownership of accounting matters from beginning to end. This is an in-office position and is not eligible for remote work. Key Responsibilities Manage the monthly close process for each company and ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and closed on a timely basis. Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and account analyses for review by the CFO and CEO. Perform and review bank reconciliations and maintain complete and accurate balance sheet reconciliations. Manage the complete accounts payable process, including: Entering and reviewing vendor invoices Obtaining required approvals Processing payments Building and maintaining strong vendor relationships Manage and monitor accounts receivable, including tenant rent payments and other receivables. Follow up on outstanding balances and ensure tenant and customer accounts are accurate and current. Manage daily cash activity, perform cash reconciliations, and assist the CFO with cash flow management and planning. Prepare and reconcile all intercompany transactions and ensure balances between related entities remain properly reconciled. Maintain loan schedules, debt reconciliations, interest calculations, and supporting documentation. Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and documentation for capital asset purchases, improvements, and disposals. Account for lease agreements, tenant billings, rent activity, property expenses, and other real estate-related transactions. Review property management activity and ensure transactions are properly recorded within the appropriate entity. Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for annual tax preparation and coordinate accounting requests with the company's external CPA firm. Prepare financial statements, analyses, schedules, and supporting documentation required for financing requests, refinancing, lender reporting, and banking relationships. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, property-level analysis, and other financial analyses as requested by the CFO and CEO. Develop, document, maintain, and continually improve accounting policies, procedures, processes, and internal controls. Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation for all entities. Serve as the primary accounting contact for vendors, tenants, property managers, lenders, and other business partners, ensuring accounting questions and issues are addressed promptly and professionally. Identify accounting discrepancies or process issues and take ownership of researching and resolving them. Support additional accounting, finance, and real estate projects as the portfolio continues to grow. Qualifications Prior accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, commercial real estate, or a multi-entity environment. Strong understanding of general accounting principles, including month-end close, accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and debt accounting. Strong experience with QuickBooks is required. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize, analyze, reconcile, and present financial data. Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, and Teams. Comfortable using modern technology and AI productivity tools, including Claude, to assist with research, analysis, documentation, and process efficiency where appropriate. Experience managing accounting for multiple legal entities is strongly preferred. Real estate lease accounting and tenant billing experience is preferred. Experience preparing financial information for lenders, banks, or external CPA firms is preferred. Skills and Attributes The ideal candidate will be: Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
