Job Summary: 

Seeking fulltime Senior Level IT- Systems Admin/Engineer.  This role will perform a variety of technical tasks such as setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software.  The Systems Engineer will have experience and/or knowledge of the following: ability to tackle detailed technical assignments often requiring learning or developing planning and integration skills; proficiency in project planning and product life cycle management; performing design assessments and developing data driven solutions.   

Key Responsibilities: 

System Maintenance and Administration: 

• Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
• Perform regular system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, and key processes.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues, and provide solutions in a timely manner.

Security and Backup: 

• Implement and maintain security measures, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Manage user access controls, ensuring proper security protocols are followed.
• Perform regular backups and ensure disaster recovery plans are in place and tested.

Network and Server Management: 

• Maintain and administer computer networks, including LANs, WANs, VPNs, and wireless systems.
• Set up and configure new servers, and ensure their performance meets business needs.
• Monitor network performance and optimize it for availability and efficiency.

User Support and Training:

• Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users.
• Maintain documentation of systems, processes, and configurations.
• Assist with onboarding and training of new staff on relevant IT systems.

System Performance and Optimization:

• Analyze system logs and identify potential issues with computer systems.
• Optimize system performance, ensuring all systems run efficiently and securely.
• Ensure the availability of IT services and respond promptly to incidents and service requests.

Software and Patch Management:

• Perform routine updates of software, operating systems, and security patches.
• Ensure software licensing compliance and manage vendor relationships for IT products and services.

Qualifications: 

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent combination of experience in lieu of degree.
• Experience: 20+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role supporting mission-critical defense systems
• Clearance Requirement: Top Secret SCI (required at start date)
• Required Skills:

• CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification
  
• Hands-on experience with system administration, security, and network management
• Proficiency with Enterprise Level Windows Server and Linux systems administration
• Hands-on experience with Automation tools (Bash, Python, PowerShell, Perl, Expect) for orchestration, log parsing, API interaction, and creation of reusable modules and functions to streamline repetitive workflows
• Database Administration (Oracle, SQL Server)
• Proficient with low level troubleshooting utilities and system monitoring tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, nslookup, iperf, Wireshark, HP OpenView, LogRythm, Tripwire) and systematic root cause analysis of latency, packet loss, and asymmetric routing scenarios
• Hands on experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) and/or KVM clusters, including resource pools, DR-S, and live migration strategies
  
• Patch Management & Configuration Control
• Security Operations – Enforcement of least privilege RBAC models, STIG Hardening, RMF compliance, MFA implementation across privileged accounts, vulnerability remediation, and endpoint hardening aligned with NIST/ISO security frameworks
• Knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and security best practices.
• Experience with Veritas NetBackup
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Strong communication skills to interact with users and team members

• Detail-oriented and capable of documenting procedures effectively
• Preferred Skills/Certifications:
• Cryptological devices (TACLANEs, SKLs, and/or loading key materials)
• Monitoring and maintenance of network attached storage (e.g., Dell EMC)
• System backup/restoral and backup tools
• Knowledge of database health and status checks is a plus
• Systematic Problem Solving – Methodical, data driven diagnostic approach leveraging logs, metrics, and monitoring platforms (e.g., Splunk, Grafana, etc.) to isolate and resolve complex incidents
• Cross Functional Collaboration – Partner effectively with senior engineers, development teams, and business users to align solutions with architectural standards and business objectives
• Continuous Learning & Mentorship – Proactively pursue emerging technologies, certifications, and hands on labs; mentor junior staff and disseminate best practices t throughout the team
• Technology Vigilance – Stay abreast of industry trends, threat landscapes, and vendor roadmaps; integrate new capabilities into existing environments to drive efficiency and resilience
