LPN Correctional

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a correctional facility setting is responsible for providing nursing care under established protocols and supervision. This role involves administering medications, performing clinical assessments, and collaborating with healthcare staff to ensure patient safety and care quality. The LVN/LPN will work within the scope of practice, comply with regulatory requirements, and support facility operations including mandatory float assignments. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care and clinical services to patients in a correctional healthcare environment.
• Administer medications following approved protocols and complete required pharmacology coursework documentation.
• Perform patient assessments and report findings to supervising healthcare professionals.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic charting systems such as Cerner.
• Comply with all facility policies, including mandatory float assignments within the facility's scope.
• Participate in required screening and background checks as per Department of Corrections guidelines.
• Adhere to infection control and safety standards within the correctional healthcare setting.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Practical Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing school in Illinois.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Successful completion of medication administration coursework consistent with Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation standards.
• Ability to pass Department of Corrections background check and screening process.
• Valid State ID or Driver's License.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Two years of recent full-time clinical experience in an acute care or ambulatory care facility.

Special Considerations:

• No call requirements.
• Mandatory floating within the facility based on operational needs.
• Correctional facility environment requiring adherence to security protocols.
• Compliance with PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) screening requirements.
• Scrub color designated as navy blue.

Scheduling:

• 36 guaranteed hours per week.
• Every other weekend schedule, totaling 2 weekends per month.
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days maximum with no more than 2 consecutive days.
• No RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after holidays.
