Facility Coordinator

Start Date: June 21, 2026
Schedule: 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM, Monday–Friday (early start required for campus safety) + approximately 5 flexible hours weekly, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed

Knoxville Montessori School is seeking a reliable, proactive Facility Coordinator to support the daily safety, maintenance, and functionality of our campus. This role is essential in ensuring that our environment is safe, prepared, and welcoming for students, families, and staff each day.

The ideal candidate is observant, hands-on, and takes pride in maintaining a well-ordered environment. This position is well-suited for someone early in their facilities or operations career who is looking to grow into increased responsibility over time.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Daily Operations

• Ensure the campus is safe, clean, and ready before students and families arrive
• Conduct daily walk-throughs of buildings and grounds
• Monitor entry points and serve as a visible, welcoming presence during arrival
• Maintain safety systems, including alarms, cameras, and communication devices

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance (doors, fixtures, equipment, etc.)
• Track and respond to maintenance requests
• Coordinate and oversee outside vendors as needed

Emergency Preparedness

• Support school safety planning and emergency procedures
• Maintain and restock emergency supplies
• Assist with drills, inspections, and compliance requirements

Coordination & Support

• Organize storage, materials, and facility systems
• Assist with event setup and campus transitions
• Communicate clearly with staff and administration regarding facility needs

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities, maintenance, or operations (school setting a plus)
• Strong reliability, initiative, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including consistent early mornings and occasional evenings or weekends as needed
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and navigate campus terrain
• Must pass a background check

Compensation

$36,000–$40,000 annually, based on experience, with opportunity for growth in responsibility and compensation over time

What a Day Might Look Like

Each day on campus is different, but every morning begins the same way: you are the first to arrive, walking the campus and checking classrooms to ensure everything is safe, secure, and ready for the day. As students begin to arrive, you are a visible, welcoming presence—greeting families and helping set the tone for a calm, prepared start.

From there, your day may include a mix of planned and responsive work. You might be completing routine maintenance, fixing a leaky sink, or troubleshooting an unexpected issue like an ant problem. You could be outside clearing overgrown vines, working alongside a student to build a new bench, or stepping in to support the front office during a lunch break. You may help coordinate a fire drill, reset a space for an event, or simply pause to accept a cup of peppermint tea from a student.

This role requires flexibility, initiative, and a steady presence. No two days are the same, but each one plays an important role in keeping the school running safely and smoothly.
