Position Title: Special Education Teacher

Position Type: Certified - Full Time Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal(s), the Special Education Resource Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities who are served primarily in general education settings. This position is responsible for implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education staff, and using evidence-based strategies to support student access to grade-level content and promote academic, behavioral, and social success. Essential Functions
- Conducts assessments and diagnostic testing to identify learning challenges and recommend interventions that support student progress.
- ?Conducts ongoing progress monitoring and adjusts instruction based on student data.
- Develops and implements IEPs in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements.
- Conducts eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and parent conferences.
- Provides direct instruction in reading, math, writing, or behavior to students with disabilities in resource and/or inclusion settings.
- ?Coordinates with external agencies and service providers as needed to ensure a full continuum of support.
- ?Collaborates with general education teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, and differentiated instruction aligned with students' needs.
- Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and related service staff at both Westwood and GLEAMNS to meet student needs.
- Assists with classroom management, behavior intervention planning, and instructional support for students with exceptional learning needs.
- Serves as a liaison between home and school to promote family engagement, student well-being, and success.
- Maintains accurate documentation, data tracking, and compliance with state and district special education procedures.
- Participates in professional development to remain informed on best practices in special education.
- Maintains and uses appropriate instructional materials, equipment, and records across both school settings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the principals or district administration.

- Occasional travel to other district sites or meetings as needed.
- Thorough knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and instructional best practices.
- Skill in differentiating instruction and managing diverse learning profiles.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and service providers.
- Strong organizational, data analysis, and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Competency with educational software, assistive technology, and student information systems.
- School environment; may involve classrooms, small-group settings, and one-on-one instruction.
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials or assistive equipment may be required.
- Special Education teaching certificate as certified through the SC Department of Education
- Additional endorsements or training in reading intervention or behavior support (preferred)
