Chemical Operations TechnicianLocation: Torrance, CA 90503Duration: 5+ months (Temp to Hire for the right candidate)Schedule: Position starts out days a month and then rotates with 12 hour days/nights, schedule rotates.Note:Two Interviews: Phone - 30 mins; Onsite - 1 hourPosition OverviewThis contractor role reports directly to the Torrance Operations Manager and supports the Finished Goods Logistics function within the company. The primary responsibility is the safe and efficient packaging, handling, and shipment of finished goods, while maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping, and operational discipline.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational & Logistics DutiesPerform yard operations including sampling, weighing, inspecting loads, and loading/unloading trucks, railcars, and ISO containers within scheduled timelinesPackage products into drums and totesMaintain plant housekeeping and cleanliness standardsEnsure accurate and efficient shipment of finished goodsEquipment & Process OperationsOperate, monitor, and field-check process equipment and control systemsPerform routine operational tasks such as equipment preparation, sampling, and inspectionsIdentify process deviations and troubleshoot operational issuesInitiate maintenance work requests in SAP as requiredConduct minor maintenance tasks (e.g., valve replacements, fixing small leaks, steam traps)Safety, Compliance & HSEQFollow Operating Discipline principles to ensure safe and efficient plant operationsActively participate in safety programs, Immediate Response (IR) team activities, and EH&S initiativesIdentify hazards, report near misses, and support corrective actionsEnsure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste (RCRA compliance)Maintain compliance with all legal, regulatory, and internal HSEQ requirementsContinuous Improvement & Team SupportContribute to plant performance improvements, efficiency gains, and energy reduction initiativesParticipate in AIMS initiatives and procedure development/verificationCollaborate with operations, maintenance, and support teams to achieve plant goalsSupport other production areas as neededAccountabilitiesServe as the first and last point of contact for trucks entering and exiting the facilityVerify completion and accuracy of loading operationsEnsure adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standardsKey CompetenciesResponsible Care: Commitment to safety, environmental protection, and EH&S programsInitiative: Self-starter with proactive approach to identifying and completing tasksWork Process Discipline: Ability to follow and apply documented proceduresProductivity Focus: Drive to improve plant efficiency and performanceTeamwork: Strong communication and collaboration skills across teamsQualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredPrior chemical or manufacturing experience preferredBasic computer skills requiredStrong math skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to work independently and perform physically demanding tasksWillingness to work indoors/outdoors and across all shifts, including overtimeHSEQ Responsibilities:Comply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as made known by the site and by the business unit (BU).Comply with the rules of the specific location to which one is assigned as well as the rules set by the business unit.Comply with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.Review their work areas for potential losses and Report hazards to the direct supervisor.Report Near Misses to the direct supervisor.Report Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor.Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system.
