Job Details Department: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital – Emergency Department. Status: Part time. Benefits eligible: Yes. Hours per week: 24. Schedule: 11a-11p. Pay range: $21.85 – $32.80. Major Responsibilities Assists physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care of patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients to other departments, placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors, performing wound care, and obtaining lab specimens. Documents information/procedures and promptly communicates observations, concerns and needs of patients to the registered nurse. Processes daily patient charges and/or related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Collaborates with physicians to support communications required to facilitate patient care, coordinating all forms of communications (phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, EMS system). Maintains a clean and safe working environment, following department safety policies and standard precautions. Monitors equipment and troubleshoots minor problems, arranging repair of major malfunctions. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate for the ages of patients served, including understanding principles of growth and development and assessing patient status relative to age‑specific needs. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required Nurse Aide in good standing with the state registry. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued through national or state registry. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Intravenous license issued through national or state registry. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued through national or state registry. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued through national or state registry. Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within six months unless otherwise determined. Education Required High school graduate. Experience Required Typically requires one year experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR). Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients and families. Maintain skill and recertification as required. Effective time and priority management. High attention to detail. Must maintain annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF). Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently. Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 20 lbs over the head; carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance. Push/pull with 30 lbs of force; perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person. Use foot pedals on carts or machines. Exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood/body fluids hazards continuously. Wear gloves, goggles, and gowns as needed. Must have functional sight and hearing.
