Job Description Under the direction of the General Accounting Manager, this position supervises and reviews the daily functions of the Accounting staff and is responsible for oversight of both daily and month-end reconciliation processes and maintenance of the automated general ledger (GL) reconciliation system. Establishes a working relationship with business units throughout the organization to obtain an understanding of account processes, financial reporting risks and provides guidance to ensure timely preparation of GL account reconciliations by each business unit. Responsibilities Supervises operations and reconcilement functions, including review of daily balancing and reconciliations as well as processing of general ledger and other entries necessary for daily functions. This includes reconciliation of the Bank’s Federal Reserve Bank account, domestic and foreign due from accounts and internal checking accounts, utilizing the automated account reconciliation system. Reviews and approves related month-end reconciliations prepared by staff. Supervises GL application balancing function, including review of daily balancing and reconciliations of core application balances, including suspense, clearing, reject, internal deposit accounts and other GL accounts as required. Reviews daily tickets and adjusting journal entries. Reviews and approves related month-end reconciliations prepared by staff. Responsible for the management of all employees in the section including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development. Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate. Responsible for the timely and effective management of People Services forms and documents relevant to immediate staff. Oversees the month-end submission of GL account reconciliations and internal checking accounts by all business units in accordance with Bank policies and procedures. Supervises staff to ensure timely follow up for late and/or incomplete submissions. Performs rotational review of Company monthly AU3 submissions for balance sheet accounts and internal deposit accounts and documents understanding of flow of transactions. Identifies potential reconciliation enhancements or reconciliation system improvements. Serves as a resource and provides training and assistance to business unit personnel in the proper preparation of GL account reconciliations. Supervises staff in working with business units to provide meaningful detail and ensure that unreconciled differences and aged items are appropriately addressed and resolved in a timely manner. Performs all other job related duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related area from an accredited educational institution or equivalent work experience. CPA designation preferred. Level is dependent on years of experience and size/complexity of prior positions held. Minimum 5 - 7 years of experience in accounting and/or auditing with a financial institution or large public accounting firm. Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Access) or similar relational database products. Relational database knowledge, strong spreadsheet proficiency and analytical skillset required. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills to conduct formal meetings. Must have excellent problem solving skills and be able to develop effective solutions that consider efficiency, internal controls, and impact to financial results. Requires the ability to exercise sound judgment. Requires a strong working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, as well as a firm understanding of GL processing, and other relevant matters. Must be capable of reviewing GL accounts, reconciliations, suspense items, and other accounting-related transactions to identify issues and exposures relative to financial statement impact and internal controls. Able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
