MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, 1201 Grand Worker Type: Regular Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient‘s hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach. Responsibilities Essential Functions: Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment. Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data. Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs. Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition. Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury (restraint care, pain management, abuse assessment). Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice. Relates to coworkers in a professional and appropriate manner. Performs work in accordance with safety and infection control policy. Delivers service excellence to the customers of Saint Louis University Hospital. Incorporates performance improvement and evidence‑based practice into individual professional practice. Provides age‑appropriate care for adult/geriatric populations. Ensures cost‑effective use of resources. Specialized Care: Restraint Care – initiate/evaluate alternatives, apply restraints, monitor response, provide specified care, consult peers, document usage. Pain Management – assess presence of pain, incorporate cultural beliefs, implement prevention techniques, involve patient/family, consider non‑pharmacologic methods. Abuse Assessment – recognize signs, report to relevant authorities, take appropriate action. Accountability and Professional Development: Adheres to quality and performance standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Participates in learning experiences and maintains competence. Engages in shared governance and unit activities, attends staff meetings, and reviews publications. Demonstrates adaptability, supports peers, and applies change positively. Team Collaboration: Precepts new employees when required. Maintains collaborative team approach and serves as a resource. Assumes and delegates care appropriately, communicates plan of care precisely. Supervises and teaches students/new staff nurses. Safety and Infection Control: Practices standard precautions and disposes of hazardous waste. Maintains safe, clean environment, follows hand hygiene, utilizes safe patient handling. Reports risk‑management concerns and completes mandatory annual requirements such as licenses, vaccinations, and safety trainings. Customer Service Excellence: Demonstrates courteous service, meets physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. Communicates effectively, maintains confidentiality, and provides accurate hand‑off reports. Uses resources wisely, recommends practice changes, and maintains patient satisfaction. Performance Improvement: Assists in developing unit goals, remains current with evidence‑based initiatives. Participates in data collection, suggests solutions, and contributes to quality improvement. Age‑Appropriate Care: Displays knowledge of normal growth and development for the served age group. Assesses and interprets age‑specific data, involves family in decision‑making. Cost‑Effective Services: Uses resources efficiently, documents chargeable supplies, and prioritizes responsibilities. Job Specifications Minimum Education: Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri. Working Conditions: May be exposed to risk of blood‑borne diseases, unpleasant elements, unpredictable situations, emergency crises, and irregular hours. Physical Requirements: Occasional prolonged standing/walking; lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients; reaching, stooping, and kneeling. Required Professional Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
