ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment, focusing on critically ill patients and providing advanced nursing interventions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in accordance with established protocols and standards.
• Monitor patient conditions and responses to treatments and medications.
• Administer medications and intravenous (IV) therapies as prescribed.
• Titrate drips as necessary, including cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Participate in ongoing patient assessments and documentation in the electronic health record (EPIC).
• Interpret and document telemetry strips, ensuring accurate communication of patient status.
• Assist in the management of various respiratory therapies and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
• Support the training and supervision of nurse aides and other support staff.

Qualifications

• Current RN license required for submission.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
• Experience in an ICU setting preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Work Environment

The ICU has 33 beds with an average daily census of 16 patients. Nurse-patient ratios are typically 1:2-3 for adults. The department handles a variety of cases, including trauma, cardiac conditions, substance abuse, sepsis, post-operative care, and renal failure.

Shifts & Scheduling

• Shifts are 12 hours long, with options for day and night shifts.
• Self-scheduling available for core staff, with travelers added as needed.
• Minimum commitment of two holidays required within the contract timeframe.
• Weekend shifts required every other weekend.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a one-shift department-specific orientation to familiarize themselves with protocols and procedures.

Additional Information

Applicants must adhere to the fingernail policy, which prohibits artificial nails in patient care departments. All candidates will be required to complete a pass/fail exam during orientation and must achieve a passing score for continued employment.
