Primary Purpose:

To prepare and serve the appropriate quantities of food to meet meal requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, safety practices and customer service.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Food Handler training (certification must be completed within 30 days of hire)

Experience:

• Food Service Experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions
• Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
• Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
• Working as part of a team
• Working with interruptions

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Prepare food using standardized recipes, accurate measurements, and correct food preparation techniques. Prepare food according to time schedules to meet deadlines and monitor food quality during preparation.
• Arranges food and beverage items for the purpose of serving them to students and staff in an efficient and presentable manner.
• Serve correct food portions using acceptable sanitation techniques in food handling, maintaining correct holding temperatures and utilizing food merchandising techniques. Accurately report amounts of food used and leftovers.
• Cleans utensils, equipment and building areas as assigned (e.g. carts, dishes, pans, tables, counters, storage, food preparation and serving areas, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining required orderly, clean, and sanitary conditions.
• Performs cashiering duties (e.g. count money, make correct change, prepare and balance cash registers, prepare deposits, etc.) for the purpose of completing meal transactions, securing funds for reimbursement of costs and reconciling bank deposits.
• Prepares documentation (i.e. production records, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support of meals prepared and served and/or conveying information.
• Stocks food, condiments, and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
• Interact positively with students, faculty, administration and others.
• Foster a harmonious team environment by assisting coworkers with scheduled work demands.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by the Child Nutrition Manager for the purpose of filling in for other areas due to absenteeism or unexpected special events.
• Performs other duties as requested.
• All duties must be performed on site.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard kitchen equipment

Posture: Prolonged periods of bending, kneeling, squatting, and/or walking. Generally, the position requires 5% of time spent sitting, 45% walking, and 50% standing.

Movements: Repetitive and precise manual dexterity.

Weight Lifting: Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling considerable weight. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Environment: Occasional exposure to fumes or particles in the environment, as well as extreme heat and cold.

Mental Demands: Working with frequent interruptions; maintaining emotional control in stressful situations.
