Boston Public Health Commission

City of Boston Residency Required

Mission Statement

The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to work in partnership with communities to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities. The BPHC sets an expectation that all staff and leadership commit, individually and as part of the BPHC team, to hold ourselves accountable to establishing a culture of anti-racism and advance racial equity and justice through each of our bureaus, programs, and offices.

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Office of Violence Prevention's Capacity Building & Training Initiative (CBTI) is seeking a full-time Training Manager to develop and deliver workforce training for adult service providers on trauma-informed and equitable care, racial and gender justice, health equity, and violence prevention. The role also maintains community and City partnerships for training, collaboration, and referrals, as part of a caring, dynamic team.

Who we are: The Capacity Building and Training Initiative (CBTI) prevents and addresses violence through strengthening trauma-informed and equitable approaches among providers and systems serving children, youth, adults and families in Boston and beyond. As a team, we develop and deliver multi-session training institutes and adapted workshops with service providers and young people, and partner with organizations to build the capacity of staff at all levels (direct service, management and leadership) to enhance the quality of their programming, policies, protocols and climate.

CBTI is proud to partner with the Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative (DSG) on training and related initiatives. The DSG strives to create an inclusive, trauma-informed, and equitable environment that fosters a collective response to and prevention of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence. Our goal is to support all survivors—particularly BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ folks, women, girls, young people, immigrants, incarcerated folks, and those with disabilities and/or currently unhoused—by advocating for and supporting the provision of culturally responsive and linguistically accessible resources that aid in their healing, while also challenging the systemic inequities, including patriarchy, racism, and all forms of oppression, that perpetuate gender-based violence. We do this through frequent community engagement, receiving feedback, and data collection; training and capacity building for service providers; and promoting policy change through research and partner collaboration.

DUTIES

As a member of the CBTI and DSG teams, the Training Manager leads work across three connected domains: training development and delivery, administrative and logistical coordination, and partnership and collaboration building. The first two domains take up the majority of time: administrative work is largely in service of training (scheduling, materials, tracking outcomes) rather than a separate workload, and duties like facilitation are shared with teammates. For DSG specifically, this may include supporting daycares receiving funding with invoicing and other administrative tasks. The role calls for strong independent judgment and follow-through, grounded in a realistic workplan set with the CBTI and DSG Directors and a team culture of regularly supporting one another's work.

TRAINING DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY

  • Co-design single and multiple session trainings in English and Spanish on topics related to trauma-informed and equitable care, with a special focus on topics including racial and gender justice, health equity and violence prevention (community, domestic, sexual and gender-based violence).
  • Co-deliver training sessions in English and Spanish using adult learning principles and modeling trauma-informed and equitable facilitation techniques, including presenting content in clear and accessible ways, answering questions, and facilitating dialogue and interactive activities
  • Collaborate with the CBTI and DSG teams to ensure our Core training content is up-to-date with local and national best practices, including compiling, reviewing and summarizing literature and other resources
  • Adapt CBTI and DSG Core training content to meet the needs of City and community partners, including engaging partners in an assessment process (e.g. 1:1s, surveys, listening sessions) to ensure tailored trainings are responsive to their learning needs
  • Assisting in creating training materials for continued use in future trainings such as participant workbooks, handouts, toolkits, etc.
  • 20% of time will be spent with DSG team on projects including training on trauma-informed and equitable approaches and domestic violence with Spanish-speaking early education and care providers.

ADMINISTRATIVE & LOGISTICAL COORDINATION

  • Coordinate training logistics, including securing space, creating flyers, conducting outreach, handling registration and communications with participants, preparation of materials (e.g. printing participant handouts), including delegating elements of logistics to team members as needed
  • Schedule planning meetings with internal team members and external partners; when leading a meeting, developing agendas, facilitating, taking notes (or assign a note taker), and follow up
  • Manage training requests from community partners, including reviewing training intakes, assisting in delegating requests or referring to other resources
  • Supporting Spanish-speaking early education and care providers grant recipients with their invoicing process and other administrative tasks.
  • Complete data entry and documentation of training outcomes, and assist colleagues with basic data analysis and reporting (on-the-job training is available if unfamiliar)
  • Regularly utilizes CBTI and DSG SharePoint pages; given the collaborative nature of the work all team members are expected to maintain up-to-date, clear and easily accessible project files
  • Suggest and assist with updates to training coordination protocols and processes
  • Assist team members as needed with administrative tasks related to their respective projects

STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS & COLLABORATION

  • Coordinate with community partners to uplift existing training resources and identify training gaps, including developing interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary workshops and training opportunities
  • Provide follow-up resources, referrals and technical assistance to training participants as needed
  • Build relationships with community and City partners to learn about one another’s services, co-develop trainings, strengthen referral networks, develop shared language, and identify emerging needs and resources related to trauma-informed care, equity, and violence prevention
  • Speak to issues of trauma, domestic, sexual, and other forms of violence through an intersectional racial and gender equity lens when representing CBTI, DSG and BPHC at trainings and events
  • Work in partnership with the Director and Senior Program Manager to help maintain positive team atmosphere and collaborative-spirit among coworkers
  • Support the CBTI team in creating and maintaining a centralized CBTI partner agency and resource directory for internal and external use, including up-to-date details on program’s offerings, hyperlinks to online resources, etc.
  • Update Listserv and partner database, including proactively reaching out to team members to ensure contact lists are up-to-date and correcting errors
  • Assist in translation of CBTI/DSG materials such as flyers, surveys and other communications
  • Assist in the updating and sharing of CBTI and DSG’s online learning content
  • Assist CBTI/DSG in community engagement activities such as listening sessions, surveys, etc. to inform our programming and ensure it is responsive to community needs
  • Assist in DSG in coordination with BPHC Communications for posting information and resources to BPHC social media and website
