Essential Duties

This posting will remain open to generate a pool of qualified student applicants for available positions during the semester.
Covering Angelo State affiliated sports and other relevant events. Researching/gathering information and writing various types of content (including multimedia) for the Ram Page; performing other duties commensurate with the position as assigned.

Essential job duties include:

1. Gathering information for the sports stories through research and interviewing. On the job training provided if necessary or requested.
2. Researching, finding, verifying and checking facts and statements for truthfulness and accuracy. On the job training provided if necessary or requested.
3. Drafting, editing and revising (based on editor's and copy editor's feedback) stories. Applying established journalistic standards and AP style in the process.
4. Assisting with/producing various types of content commensurate with the employee's position, skillset and abilities, as assigned.
5. Building networks of sources, colleagues and campus community members.
6. Writing columns and feature stories as assigned.
7. Performing basic operations in the Ram Page website backdoor. On the job training provided if necessary or requested.
8. Having basic skillset to function as a photographer in case Ram Page photographer is not available. On the job training provided if necessary or requested.
9. Being able to meet tight deadlines and accommodate short notices if necessary.
10. Assisting Ram Page editor in various tasks commensurate with the employee's position, skillset and abilities.
11. Attending and participating in all Ram Page staff meetings (with the exception for extenuating circumstances established on case-by-case basis).
12. Being available for at least some department-initiated events that involve Ram Page (e.g., welcoming visitors from high schools touring the campus and introducing them to the Ram Page, etc.).

Required Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled student who is registered for classes.
• Appropriate writing skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, concise and clear writing style).
• Higher than average knowledge of sports in general and Angelo State athletics and club sports in particular.
• Ability to approach covering sports analytically and meaningfully.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of newswriting and AP style.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift/carry up to approximately 5 lbs.
• Must be able to work indoors and outdoors and stand for 2-4 hrs. at a time if necessary.

Salary
$9.00/hr
