Physical Therapy (Therapist) Manager Inpatient

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Inpatient PT Manager to lead a highly skilled collaborative therapy team at one of the regions busiest acute care Level 1 Trauma and comprehensive stroke centers caring for a diverse and medically complex patient population. Job Description: Under the supervision of the Director, Rehabilitation Services, and working within their scope of practice as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Physical Therapy Manager acts as both a manager and clinical resource to the staff. The Physical Therapy Manager is the direct manager of the staff adhering to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) and regulatory policies and procedures. The Manager is responsible for maintaining the efficient and effective flow of all site/department functions. The Manager is responsible for the daily operation of their department / site including fiscal responsibility. The Manager assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that improve or restore physical function, alleviate pain and prevent and improve dysfunction in patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status form injury, disease or other cases. Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to: 1) Leadership Interviews, selects, orients, trains and mentors new staff. Provides verbal input to Director of Rehabilitation Services on staff and department functions. Provides ongoing supervision to staff and provides feedback on their performance. Responds and handles problems appropriately and in a timely fashion. Completes and conducts performance appraisals and coaching to LHMC / Lahey Health standards. Makes recommendations for pay increases, promotions, transfers and other human resource actions in consultation with the Director of Rehabilitation Services. Counsels, disciplines and recommends termination of colleagues as necessary. Treats staff with dignity and respect. Conducts monthly staff meetings and maintains minutes for colleague review. Works as a role model for staff by exhibiting professional and ethical behavior. Fosters a positive attitude in the department and promotes high colleague moral. Problem solves in a timely and diplomatic manner. Works collaboratively to improve processes within the department and organization. Informs senior management of any site/department problems. These may include but are not limited to safety, equipment, staffing, medical staff and interpersonal problems. Supervises professional research activities. 2) Budget Management Participates as directed in the decisions for the site/department annual capital expenditures. Participates as directed in the preparation of site/department annual budget. Responsible for site/department monthly budget maintenance. Responsible for site/department achievement of monthly and annual volume goals. 3) Staff Development Orients, trains and mentors new staff. Allocates and monitors colleagues’ work. Provides consistent feedback to staff on an ongoing basis. Assures that all staff posses the education, licensure and training needed for their responsibilities and that competence is maintained. Serves as a resource for Rehabilitation Services staff. Addresses the educational needs of the staff and provides resources to meet those needs. Observes and/or co-treats patients with therapists. Provides feedback to the Director of Rehabilitation Services on educational needs of the department. 4) Project Management Coordinates the development and over site of site/department quality assurance programs. Is involved in department and hospital projects and committees. Develops, plans and upgrades programs and protocols. Identifies the need for new programs and projects to ensure department excellence. Effectively completes all assigned projects and programs thoroughly and in a timely manner. Works as a team player within the department and with colleagues in other departments. 5) Time Management Meets department’s standard for productivity. Completes individual and site statistics in accordance with department policies. Assures that work schedules, procedures and assignments utilize staff in the most effective manner. 6) Professional Growth: Attends professional education workshops, seminars, lectures and conferences to enhance physical therapy skills, patient outcomes and satisfaction. Advance leadership knowledge to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of the department and colleague satisfaction. Shares knowledge through informal discussion and department in services. Applies knowledge learned at internal and external educational programs and through professional reading to enhance the operation of the department. Shares knowledge and skills with co-workers. Provides internal and external lectures. 7) Patient Care Examination Examines patient using appropriate testing methods and instruments, appropriately records and interprets all findings, and identifies patient needs. Formulates a detailed assessment based upon findings of the examination. Develops treatment plan and patient outcomes, incorporating the input of the patient, their family and other health professionals. Ensures the plan and outcomes are functional, time-based, and measurable, and incorporate diagnosis, prognosis, physical / mental status and anticipated lifestyles. Completes examination in department-established timeframe. 8) Treatment Planning and Intervention Safely and effectively implements the treatment intervention. Applies sound clinical judgment and skill. Identifies all the Physical Therapy needs of patient. Engages a high degree of patient motivation and cooperation in treatment as evidenced by patient and family compliance with treatment intervention. Provides patient/family education during therapy and in preparation for discharge. Conducts ongoing assessments of the patient’s status and revises treatment intervention, goals and outcomes as appropriate. Participates in multidisciplinary patient care planning. Demonstrates solid clinical skills in accordance with level of experience. Delegates responsibilities to support personnel in accordance with their ability. Proper instruction is given and treatment reviewed. Required documentation and co-signatures on documentation complete. Develops realistic goals and outcomes (measurable, temporal and functional). Incorporates the patients and families goals. Addresses and revises goals in accordance with department standards. 9) Discharge Planning Initiates discharge planning. Incorporates patient/family input in the education process. Participates in multidisciplinary patient care planning. Consults with other allied health professionals as needed. Documents discharge summary per department policy. Discharge patients in appropriate time frame. Provide length of therapy consistent with diagnosis, treatment plan, and patient’s response to treatment, goals, interventions and outcomes. Eliminates unproductive patient treatments. Discharges or transfers patients to nursing or support staff when skilled therapy services are no longer required, patient plateaus or achieve their goals. 10) Patient Care Documentation Document initial examination in the patient medical record in accordance with department policy. Examination documentation is complete in department timeframe. Daily progress notes are documented after each treatment and include all pertinent parameters (treatment performed changes in patient status, changes in treatment, effectiveness of treatment and patient’s progress in therapy, treatment plan). Re-examination documentation is in medical record in required time frame; inpatient (every 7-10 days), outpatients (every 30 days). Re-examination documentation includes objective measurements, assessment of patient’s progress, re-establishment of goals and outcomes. Physician certification of treatment plan is complete as required. Discharge summary documentation is in the medical record upon discharge from Physical Therapy. Discharge summary will include the patient’s status upon discharge, reference to stated goals and plan for discharge. Patient referral forms are complete. -Maintains strict adherence to the LHMC Confidentiality policy. -Incorporates LHMC / Lahey Health Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities. -Complies with all LHMC / Lahey Health Policies. -Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and LHMC. -Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. -Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment. -Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards. -Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. -Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education. -Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department. Minimum Qualifications: Education: BS in Physical Therapy from an accredited program. Licensure, Certification, Registration: Active MA license in physical therapy. American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) certified. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent supervisory skills. Clear and effective written and oral communication. Ability to monitor and manage a budget. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and provide leadership to staff. Knowledge of Physical Therapy theory and practice. Ability to observe, assess and record patient symptoms, reactions and progress. Skills in critical judgement and thinking. Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses, and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the patient. Knowledge of Physical Therapy services, facilities and equipment. Ability to assess individual patient needs. Skill in maintaining patient documentation. Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards. Ability to use independent judgement. Experience: A minimum of five years professional, clinical expertise in an inpatient or outpatient setting. Pay Range: $101,670.40 USD - $142,355.20 USD The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
