Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist)

Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.

Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist), independently performs the more complex professional accounting work within the General Ledger Unit. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing, reconciling, and maintaining accounting records, preparing financial reports and year-end financial statements, performing month-end and year-end close activities, evaluating and improving accounting processes and internal controls, and providing accounting expertise to management and program staff.

This CDFA work location is near restaurants, coffee shops, and a farmer's market. We are within walking distance to light rail/public transportation, across the street from beautiful Capitol Park, and two miles from Downtown Commons (DOCO).

Working Conditions


The incumbent works in an office setting with workstations and private offices. The incumbent will have a workstation with modular furniture, a phone, an adding machine, and a computer with various desktop programs. A printer is located outside of the workstation. The workstation is also equipped with an adjustable roller chair, file drawer cabinets that roll, stationary file drawers, and a desktop of standard height. The Financial Services office area is equipped with three photocopying machines and a fax machine. Files with shelves are located throughout the office. Infrequent travel throughout the State may be required to attend training, meetings, and conferences.


This position may/may not be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the CDFA and based on the current telework policy. While the CDFA supports telework where possible, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises, as determined by the Department.

Department Information

The Financial Services Branch (FSB) is responsible for all facets of the California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) financial services branch management including payable and receivable, travel, revolving fund, cashiers, financial reports and fiscal systems and analysis.

Special Requirements
