Part-Time Bookkeeper

Based in New Brunswick, NJ

Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union, Rutgers AAUP-AFT, and United Council of Academics at NJIT represent about 10,000 faculty and staff at Rutgers and NJIT. We are actively searching for a detail-oriented and dependable Bookkeeper (Staff Assistant) to work 10-12 hours per week in our New Brunswick office (in accordance with Article 8.3(c) of the staff contract which allows for hybrid work depending on duties assigned). The bookkeeper will work closely with the Lead Staff Representative-Finance to support the organization’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations and will work under the supervision of the Executive Director.

The successful candidate will join a fast-paced, collaborative team of hard-working self-starters at a politically progressive union that takes social justice demands seriously and centers member-led unionism as a guiding principle.

Hours of Work: 10-12 hours per week, depending on need during the normal business hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. 

Qualifications:

• Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred. 
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop and Microsoft Excel is required.
• The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality and to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enter and maintain financial transactions in QuickBooks Desktop
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
• Assist with accounts payable, reimbursements, and expense allocations
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records and supporting documentation
• Prepare and issue annual Form 1099s and maintain related vendor documentation
• Assist with the preparation of annual budget, routine financial reports, schedules, and spreadsheets
• Support internal review/audit preparation by gathering and organizing requested financial records and documentation
• Perform other bookkeeping and finance-related administrative duties as assigned

Salary commensurate with experience. This is a bargaining unit position, represented by CWA Local 1032 with a minimum salary of $37.36/hour.
