o 207 licensed beds

o No Trauma Designation

o Not a Teaching Hospital

o Chest Pain Center

o Stroke Center

o Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit

● Unit Information:

o Beds: 16 ED Beds and 5 boarding beds

o Minimum Years of Experience required?

▪ ED RN: 2 years ED exp (Resource Team)

▪ Med/Tele RN: 2 years Med/Tele exp (Resource Team)

o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Not preferred but will consider (Resource Team)

● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

o *Travelers will most often be hired as Med/Tele RN to cover ED Holds – will be cross trained to task in the ED (IV starts/labs)*

o ED Diagnoses: Stroke, CHF, Electrolyte imbalance, Arrythmias, Respiratory arrest,
Sepsis, COPD, Falls, MVCs, etc.

● Patient Ratios:

o RN: 1:5 max (acuity dependent)

o CNA: 1:7

● Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:

o ED RN: Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI; Preferred: TNCC

o Med/Tele RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)

● Skills required:

o ED RN: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, experience with critical care drips, vent management, PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, conscious sedation, triage experience, etc.

o Med/Tele RN: General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc), PCA pumps

▪ Hard stop: Medication gtt management to include : Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF (not titrating)

● Support within the Department:

o CNA

o Receptionist/HUC

o Charge nurse – may or may not have patients

o Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws

o IV/VAT Team: 11a-7p, 11p-7a

o Resource Nurse – as staffing allows

o RT, 24/7

o Hospitalist, 24/7

o Intensivist - ICU provider in house until 11p M-F, till 7p Sat/Sun, VCC coverage and on call Intensivist

o No monitor tech in ED – must be comfortable monitoring own patients and interpreting EKGs/cardiac rhythms

● Technology/Equipment:

o EMR: EPIC

o IV Pump: Alaris

o Med dispensing: Omnicell

o Monitors: Phillips

o Unit specific equipment: bladder scanner, IV pumps, SCDs, Telemetry monitoring, Bipap

● Floating:

o Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable

o Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, any Freestanding ED within Region, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)

o If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)

● Orientation (facility and unit) :

o NEO

o 2 days departmental

● Scheduling:

o Weekend rotation: every other

o No call for travelers

o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays

o RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
