About the Position

Job Title: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Current RN license in the state of Ohio Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Must-Have: - NICU/Level II SCN Training preferred Description: The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) is responsible for providing exceptional, patient-centered care to expectant mothers and their newborns. The L&D RN supports patients through all stages of labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care. This role involves working closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and successful childbirth experiences. Key Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive assessments of maternal and fetal health during labor, delivery, and recovery. Monitor vital signs, fetal heart rates, contractions, and other indicators of labor progress. Administer medications, including epidurals and induction agents, as prescribed. Educate patients and families on labor processes, pain management options, and postpartum care. Assist patients during all stages of labor, including natural births, assisted deliveries, and cesarean sections. Provide emotional and physical support to patients and families during labor and delivery. Operate and monitor medical equipment, such as fetal monitors and IV pumps. Anticipate and respond quickly to complications, such as preterm labor, fetal distress, or hemorrhage. Provide immediate postpartum care to mothers, including monitoring for complications such as bleeding or infection. Support and educate patients in breastfeeding and newborn care. Perform initial newborn assessments, including Apgar scoring, weight, and vital signs. Work closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians to coordinate care. Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and report changes in patient status promptly. Participate in emergency interventions, such as neonatal resuscitation or emergency cesarean deliveries. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in electronic medical systems. Follow hospital policies, state regulations, and evidence-based practices. Ensure adherence to infection control standards and patient safety protocols. Stay current on labor and delivery best practices through continuing education. Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department. Working Conditions: Work in a fast-paced environment with physically and emotionally demanding situations. Frequent standing, lifting, and assisting patients during labor and delivery. Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and potential emergencies. Key Competencies: Compassionate patient care and effective communication.
