Mental Health Technician I – Halifax Behavioral Services (Day – United States) The Mental Health Technician provides direct and indirect patient care to child and adolescent patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Program Therapist. Responsibilities Provide continuous patient care, direct observation/supervision, interaction and positive role modeling to promote safety and therapeutic treatment. Work with multidisciplinary team in facilitating milieu activities such as community meetings, goals, groups and recreational activities appropriate to the specified patient population. Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL). Recognize potential escalation of behavior and use appropriate de‑escalation skills. React calmly and therapeutically in crisis situations. Conduct observation checks according to policy and procedure and report patient status, issues, concerns, and behavioral changes to the RN. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Serve as a role model, providing structure and guidance to patients in positive ways. Exhibit organizational ability, sound judgment and initiative. Interact positively and effectively with patients, family members, and multidisciplinary team. Attend staff meetings, trainings, in‑service presentations and complete all mandatory education requirements. Follow policy and procedures and all regulatory agency requirements related to use of seclusion and/or restraint. Comply with assigned schedule, time‑and‑attendance policy. Perform other duties as assigned or directed. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related mental health field is desired.
