Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift (3x12 Hours, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to adult medical/surgical patients housed in an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department who are awaiting inpatient bed placement
• Manage MS/Tele patient assignments at a 1:6 ratio and PCU-level patient assignments at a 1:4 ratio
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias using telemetry monitoring, both on-unit and remote
• Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed based on unit census and staffing requirements
• Operate and manage standard unit equipment including cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems; utilize Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of registered nursing experience
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Active RN license in NC or a Compact state
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Proficiency in MS/Tele skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure care, blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line management, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen delivery devices, and tracheostomy management

Preferred Experience / Skills

• NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury
• IV insulin protocol management and pre/post hemodialysis care
• Experience with port access, central line blood draws, and IV starts
• Orthopedic trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac experience
