Medical Interpreter, Spanish (CMI or CHI required; ONSITE)

Job Summary Provides language interpretation for limited English proficient patients and families in patient care areas. Key Responsibilities Serves as an interpreter for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and families, facilitating communication between patients, families, and providers. Adheres to NCIHC Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health Care, National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Healthcare, and IMIA Medical Interpreters Standards of Practice. Interprets for patients and providers in clinics and hospitals via onsite, telephone, or video remote interpreting (VRI). Advocates on behalf of patients and the medical center, balancing ethics of patient autonomy and impartiality with needs for patient care. Provides accurate and complete translation or proofreading assistance to staff translators and program coordinators as requested. Understands the cultures associated with the languages interpreted, including biomedical culture. Participates actively in process improvement initiatives and shared decision‑making. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Patient Rights (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient rights in moderate difficulty. Language Translation (Advanced): Demonstrates upper‑level expertise in language translation in challenging situations, creates meaningful new ideas and solutions. Listening (Advanced): Demonstrates excellence in listening, summarizes meetings, reflects on key points, and provides thoughtful responses. Core Accountabilities Executes job responsibilities with an understanding of the impact on other areas and teams. Analyzes moderately complex problems using technical experience and judgment. Position Qualifications Certifications: Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) – Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters; Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) – The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters. Work Experience: Relevant work experience in medical interpreting. Experience Level: 1 year. Education: High School Diploma or GED.
