Coordinator, Unintentional Injury Prevention Initiatives

Job Description The Program Coordinator for Unintentional Injury Prevention Initiatives will coordinate community-based safety programs within the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities. The Unintentional Injury Prevention team works to reduce preventable injuries among children, adolescents, and families through education, outreach, community partnerships, safety programming, and evidence-informed prevention strategies. The team’s work includes child passenger safety, teen driver safety, ThinkFirst, Click It or Ticket, and other initiatives focused on reducing injury risk and promoting safety across the communities served. This position will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety programs, including community car seat classes, satellite distribution sites, car seat check‑up events, safety fairs, four‑day Child Passenger Safety Certification Courses, and ThinkFirst programs. Responsibilities Educate children, parents, caregivers, and professionals on injury prevention and traffic safety topics. Serve as a liaison between car seat satellite distribution sites and the hospital by providing ongoing communication, technical assistance, and inventory support. Track car seat deliveries, inventory, and related program documentation. Collaborate with public affairs and marketing colleagues on public-facing safety messaging, educational materials, and outreach. Coordinate community car seat classes, satellite distribution sites, car seat check‑up events, safety fairs, and ThinkFirst programs. Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify health priorities and develop community health and engagement strategies. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate community health and engagement initiatives, programs, and events. Act as contact for the hospital with community partners, residents, and marginalized populations across Chicago neighborhoods, particularly those disproportionately affected by health inequities. Build and maintain strong relationships with community-based organizations, schools, libraries, parks, places of worship, businesses, and service providers. Support coordination of community and city‑wide convenings, trainings, and workshops, ensuring diverse representation from various backgrounds and lived experience. Coordinate program logistics, track project expenditures, facilitate meetings and events, and maintain project materials and documentation. Prepare regular status reports on project progress, outcomes, and impact. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, booking conference rooms or space, making copies, preparing meeting supplies, taking notes, and compiling key takeaways, decisions, and action items. Assist in developing and implementing communications, marketing, and/or social media efforts for specific community health and engagement initiatives and education. Support program evaluation through data collection, gathering participant feedback, and monitoring outputs and outcomes to measure effectiveness and demonstrate impact. Facilitate connections between the hospital’s healthcare providers and community partners to ensure access to health education and resources for children and families. Engage hospital leaders, employees, physicians, and trainees in community health efforts. Assist in grant and philanthropic applications and reporting to funders, and in fundraising efforts. Facilitate trainings, provide support, and assist with human resource processes for program assistants, students, interns, and volunteers. Attend and contribute to regular check‑ins with leadership, managers, staff, and collaborators, and attend team and department meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Minimum of two years of experience in community health programming or engagement, education, healthcare/public health, administration, or related field. Experience with project coordination preferred. Strong project coordination experience and organizational skills. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel throughout Chicago. Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, problem‑solving, organizational, and time‑management skills. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365 software. Experience with database management and survey software and tools preferred. Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines. Ability to work independently, be self‑directed, and take initiative. Valid Illinois driver’s license and ability to drive the department’s vehicle. Current certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician required at the time of hire or within three months of employment (subject to class availability). Compensation Pay Range: $59,280.00 – $96,928.00. The salary is aligned with market rates and reflects individual contributions, experience, and expertise.
