The doormen/concierge perform critical security and service functions at the property. They are frequently the first building staff members that visitors, guests and prospective resident's encounter. At this same time, they are a physical presence that deters criminal activity and makes residents feel more secure. The Doorman have the following duties and responsibilities.
- Doorman's principal responsibility is the protection and privacy of the building and its residents.
- The regular station of the Doorman/Concierge is directly inside the front entrance door. Doorman/Concierge should stand erect, be alert, be seen and always "on the job." They should not lean against the door or wall. They must not have their hands in their pockets. They should be standing, not seated, when residents or guest come and go. At no time shall a resident or guest be in a position to open the front door by him or herself.
- Doorman's are to maintain a clean and neat working station. Eating, drinking, smoking and reading at the door are not permitted. Radios and televisions are prohibited.
- Doorman's should not leave their station unless the conduct of their duties requires them to do so or they have made appropriate prior arrangements with the Building Resident Manager for another member of the staff to relieve them.
- While at the front door, doormen/concierge are not permitted to entertain visitors or encourage conversation with or congregate with other building employees or apartment service staff. When off duty, they may not stand around the front entrance, the lobby or hallways.
- Doormen's are not to make or receive personal telephone calls while on duty except in cases of emergency.
- Doormen's should be able to identify building residents, their children, regular visitors and residents' employees.
- Doormen's may not engage anyone, including other building employees, in loud conversation in any public area of the building.
- Doormen's uniforms must be clean and well pressed at all times. They must be in proper uniform while on duty. Personal appearance is important. All men should shave daily. Doormen at all times must keep their hair brushed, shoes shines and tie properly and neatly snug to the collar of the fully buttoned shirt.
