Essential Information

• Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $28.83. Starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and experience.
• Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 6:00pm.

The Role

Performs highly responsible duties in the preparation and maintenance of the City's financial, accounting and statistical records and reports to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of operations in accordance with sound financial management principles and practices.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Senior Accounting Technician role is a detail-oriented and analytical accounting professional with experience in financial recordkeeping, general ledger reconciliation, governmental accounting practices, and the preparation of accurate monthly and annual financial reports. They bring strong proficiency in Excel, Oracle, and other financial software, demonstrate sound judgment, and excel at researching variances, preparing adjusting entries, and ensuring proper internal controls. This candidate is highly organized, able to prioritize competing deadlines, and skilled in coordinating workload, training staff, and collaborating effectively across departments. They are adept at performing accounts receivable functions, reconciling bank statements and revenue, preparing budget-related reports, and supporting the development of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. With excellent communication skills and the ability to work with sustained concentration, they approach each task with initiative, professionalism, and a commitment to accurate, timely financial reporting.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, public administration, accounting or a related field; and,
• Four years of progressively complex and responsible accounting work experience to include financial and statistical record keeping in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial reporting, bank reconciliations and general ledger using complex Excel spreadsheets. Experience with governmental accounting systems in a public agency setting is desirable.
• Equivalency: Eight years of progressively responsible accounting work experience to include financial and statistical record keeping in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial reporting, bank reconciliations and general ledger using complex Excel spreadsheets may be substituted for the required education and the experience listed above.

Licenses and Certifications

• Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver's license within required time frame.

Selection Process

3. Oral Board Interview - (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)

Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
