Job Title: Bagging Operator - 3rd shift - 18/hr

Job Description

This contract role supports a high-volume fertilizer bagging operation within a large industrial complex. You will work in a cold, dusty, and physically demanding environment, operating and tending automated bagging lines, handling pallets, and ensuring continuous production flow. The position requires consistent lifting, attention to safety and cleanliness, and the ability to commit to a 5–6 month seasonal ramp period with overtime, including Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor automated bagging machinery to ensure continuous operation and consistent product flow.
• Hang empty bags on automated lines so they can be filled with product.
• Ensure filled bags are correctly sealed by the machinery and move efficiently down the line.
• Support robotic palletizing operations as bags are picked, stacked on pallets, and sent to the pallet wrapping machine.
• Add required paperwork to each full load and accurately track and document all pallet movements.
• Remove completed pallets from the production area, transport them outside, and place them directly onto trucks.
• Perform manual lifting of bags and materials up to 50 pounds unassisted when manual runs are required.
• Keep machinery running at all times by responding quickly to jams, material shortages, and other production issues.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, promptly cleaning up product spills to prevent damage to cement and other surfaces.
• Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment such as steel-toed shoes and cold-weather clothing.
• Work assigned shifts and overtime, including Saturdays and occasional additional hours before or after scheduled shifts as needed.
• Participate in on-shift training and safety orientation to learn site-specific processes and expectations.
• Collaborate with team members and other business units within the complex to support efficient bagging and storage of seasonal fertilizer products.
• Adapt to potential changes in duties that may include utility work and, where applicable, operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.

Essential Skills

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis.
• Ability to work overtime, including Saturdays, and commit to a 5–6 month contract assignment.
• Comfort working in a cold, dirty, dusty industrial environment with indoor and outdoor elements.
• Ability to stand for a full shift while wearing required steel-toed shoes.
• Willingness and physical ability to perform repetitive, hands-on production and general labor tasks.
• Experience or strong comfort with production, general production, or shipping work.
• Reliability and commitment to maintaining continuous machine operation and meeting production demands.
• Basic ability to complete and track paperwork accurately for each full load.
• Willingness to work any of the available shifts, including nights, and adjust between 8-hour and 10-hour schedules as needed.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and complete a safety orientation prior to starting work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• in shipping, receiving, or general warehouse operations.
• Experience operating forklifts, fork trucks, or reach trucks, especially for roles that may progress into utility positions.
• Exposure to quality-focused environments and comfort supporting basic quality checks.
• Previous experience working in agriculture, particularly with fertilizer, or in similarly dirty and dusty environments.
• Landscaping experience, providing familiarity with outdoor, physically demanding work and exposure to soil, dust, and related conditions.
• Prior use of a respirator or comfort working in environments where respirators may be required.
• Comfort working in non–climate-controlled facilities that are not clean-room or automotive-type environments.
• Willingness to wear company-issued clothing and appropriate cold-weather gear such as coats, gloves, and hats.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large industrial complex with seven business units and more than 200 people on site, including approximately 80 individuals in the supported business unit focused on large-scale fertilizer packaging. The facility is non–climate-controlled and has a cold, dirty, and dusty environment with an indoor/outdoor feel, including exposure to the smell of fertilizer. You will work around automated bagging lines, robotic palletizers, pallet wrapping machines, and material handling equipment. Seasonal ramp-up is required for fertilizer bagging and storage, and you can expect a demanding schedule. Standard 8-hour shifts run 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; during 10-hour schedules, shifts typically run 8:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with some Fridays and regular Saturday overtime. Weekly hours commonly reach 48 hours with Saturdays, and may increase toward 50 hours when working 10-hour shifts. This is a contract-only position, with the possibility of longer-term engagement based on performance and business needs. You will train directly on your assigned shift and must complete a paid safety orientation video before starting on site. The complex provides shared parking on a first-come, first-served basis, and new hires typically report to the lunchroom in the designated building on their first day. The dress code requires steel-toed shoes and practical attire suitable for a cold, dusty, industrial setting; coats, gloves, hats, and company clothing may be provided over time to support comfort and safety. Two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch are provided per shift, and you may go off site for lunch.

This is a Contract position based out of Maumee, OH.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
