Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Job Description We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (Full Time-Nights). Our ideal candidate will provide safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy. They will provide professional leadership and support to the healthcare team, work alongside other medical staff to ensure a safe and smooth delivery process, monitor vital signs, administer medications, assist with epidurals, and provide support during childbirth. In addition to their clinical responsibilities, labor and delivery nurses will educate and support parents about newborn care, breastfeeding, and recovery after childbirth, and serve as an essential source of emotional support for expectant mothers. Job Duties / Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period. Assess maternal and fetal status through ongoing monitoring, including vital signs, contractions, fetal heart tones, and labor progression. Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as ordered, including induction agents, pain management, and emergency interventions. Assist physicians, midwives, and anesthesia providers during vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and obstetric procedures. Recognize and respond quickly to maternal or fetal emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions and escalation of care. Educate patients and families on labor expectations, pain management options, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery. Support patients emotionally and advocate for individualized birth plans while ensuring safe clinical outcomes. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, fetal monitoring strips, and patient responses. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OB providers, NICU staff, surgical teams, and lactation consultants. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements. Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, drills, and continuing education related to obstetric care. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current and active Registered Nurse license in the applicable state/jurisdiction. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Minimum of 1–2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe. Fetal monitoring certification or demonstrated competency preferred.
