Medical Laboratory Technician The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine and moderately complex laboratory testing to support diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions. Working under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Scientist or Laboratory Director, the MLT ensures accurate, timely, and reliable test results while maintaining compliance with quality standards. Duties and Responsibilities: Performs routine and moderate complexity testing in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and transfusion services as permitted by regulations. Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens including blood, stool, sputum, and throat cultures. Runs daily quality control, evaluates results, documents corrective actions, and participates in proficiency testing. Operates, calibrates, and performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory analyzers and equipment. Receives, labels, prepares, and processes specimens; ensures proper handling, storage, and routing. Interprets physician's orders and secures a requisition before performing tests. Reviews results for accuracy, identifies abnormal or critical values, and follows established protocols for provider notification. Maintains accurate records, follows standard operating procedures, and adheres to safety standards. Performs venipuncture and capillary collections as assigned; provides professional and compassionate patient care. Works closely with staff and providers to support efficient workflow and timely turnaround. Monitors reagent and supply levels and assists with ordering and stocking. Identifies workflow issues and contributes to quality and efficiency initiatives. Answers questions presented by callers, doctors, and hospital staff. Collects drug screens with a chain of custody; performs Breath Alcohol Testing and completes associated chain of custody. Collects paternity tests and properly completes associated chain of custody. Performs EKGs. Other Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of laboratory methodologies, instrumentation, and clinical significance of test results. Ability to analyze complex data, troubleshoot issues, and apply critical thinking. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Effective communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical laboratory practices. Must be available to work two to three days or nights a week on call for emergency lab services. Available on call for emergency lab services three to four days or nights a week to accommodate coworkers' illness, crisis, or vacations. Must be able to return to work within 15 minutes. Cynet Health
